Grayscale Investments, the world’s largest crypto asset manager, announced the latest changes in its fund portfolios following the quarterly rebalance for the fourth quarter of 2023. In this latest move, Grayscale decided to add <a href="https://news.todayq.com/xrpl-transactions-hit-all-time-highs-will-it-pump-xrp/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Ripple’s native crypto</a>, XRP, to its list. This comes in after Ripple and other defendants bagged a partial win in the lawsuit against the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Digital large cap fund adjustments 
The standout adjustment is the inclusion of XRP (Ripple) in GDLC’s portfolio, marking a pivotal moment for the digital asset. Grayscale utilized the CoinDesk Large Cap Select Index methodology, selling portions of existing components to acquire <a href="https://news.todayq.com/avalanche-price-surges-13-amidst-crypto-market-decline/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Avalanche (AVAX</a>) and XRP. Meanwhile, Polygon (MATIC) has been removed from GDLC in this rebalancing.
As of January 4, 2024, GDLC’s updated Fund Components and their respective weightings are as follows:
– Bitcoin (BTC): 69.15%
– Ethereum (ETH): 21.90%
– Solana (SOL): 3.65%
– XRP: 2.54%
– Cardano (ADA): 1.62%
– Avalanche (AVAX): 1.14%
The move to add XRP comes after regulatory uncertainties that led to its removal in 2021. Recent legal developments, including a court ruling that XRP is not a security, have paved the way for its reinstatement in Grayscale’s portfolio. Why did Grayscale add XRP, AVAX and other cryptos? 
Grayscale’s decision to acquire AVAX highlights the growing importance of this digital asset. AVAX operates on a peer-to-peer network and employs a proof-of-stake consensus protocol, offering users the ability to exchange tokens and execute smart contracts.
XRP, created in 2012, focuses on enhancing the efficiency of global payments. Ripple, the company behind XRP, aims to provide solutions for cross-border payments through its state-of-the-art software.
Grayscale also adjusted the portfolios of its DeFi Fund and Smart Contract Platform Ex-Ethereum Fund. Curve DAO Token (CRV) was removed from DEFG, while GSCPxE Fund witnessed no additions or removals.
Investors should note that neither GDLC, DEFG, nor GSCPxE Fund generates income, and regular distribution of Fund Components is carried out to cover ongoing expenses.
This rebalance underscores Grayscale’s commitment to offering investors exposure to a diverse range of digital assets while adapting to the evolving crypto landscape. As the market matures, Grayscale’s strategic adjustments aim to provide investors with opportunities for balanced exposure to the digital asset class.
