A document released under the Freedom of Information Laws indicates that comprehensive regulations could be postponed until mid-2024.</p>

<p>In August 2022, the government made a public commitment to consult with various stakeholders in the crypto industry. The aim was to draft a regulatory framework that would be both robust and inclusive. This was seen as a positive step toward fostering a healthy crypto environment in Australia.</p> 
<p>As it stands, businesses operating in the crypto space are required to adhere to anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing (AML/CTF) regulations. This is the extent of the regulatory oversight currently in place, which many consider to be insufficient.</p>
