<p class="is-style-lead">Solana Mobile has set Jan. 21 as the launch date for the highly anticipated SKR token that will function as the economic backbone and coordination layer of its Seeker smartphone series.</p><div id="cn-block-summary-block_3596fef3af6074d64ea05215d333a305" class="cn-block-summary"><div class="cn-block-summary__nav tabs"><span class="tabs__item is-selected">Summary</span></div><div class="cn-block-summary__content"><ul class="wp-block-list"><li>Solana Mobile will launch its SKR token on Jan. 21 as the core coordination and utility layer for the Seeker smartphone ecosystem.</li><li>30% of the 10 billion SKR supply is set aside for airdrops, with the majority allocated to Seeker users and developers.</li></ul></div></div><h1 class="wp-block-heading" id="what-is-the-skr-token">What is the SKR token?</h1><p>SKR will function as the foundational utility and governance token that is expected to give crypto-native mobile users more control over platform policies and economic flows compared to traditional mobile ecosystems that Solana Mobile general manager Emmett Hollyer <a href="https://x.com/m_it/status/1850554380379951224?s=20" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">says</a> have constrained both developers and users alike.</p><p>As a part of the launch, 30% of the 10 billion SKR token supply has been <a href="https://blog.solanamobile.com/post/skr-launches-january-2026" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">earmarked</a> for community airdrops, and two-thirds of the initial airdrop allocation has been reserved for Solana Seeker users and developers.</p><p>Besides this, another 2.7 billion SKR will be made available during the token generation event, out of which 1 billion tokens will be allocated to the community treasury, and another 1 billion will be used to provide liquidity. Initially, the Saga struggled to gain traction, but the devices gained popularity <a href="https://crypto.news/saga-mobile-by-solana-sells-out-on-the-heels-of-bonk-token-surging-7-in-24-hour-trading/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">during the 2023 holiday season</a> after meme coin airdrops like BONK became so profitable for users that it exceeded the phone’s $1000 selling price.</p><h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="with-seekers-comes-guardians">With Seekers comes Guardians</h2><p>Seeker was announced in late 2024 to replace the Saga and refine the concept with a more affordable price point and better hardware. Solana Mobile began <a href="https://crypto.news/solana-seeker-phone-begins-shipment-2025/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">shipping the new devices</a> to over 50 countries in August last year, after securing more than 150,000 pre-orders.</p><p>The phone’s TEEPIN architecture decentralizes device-level security and app distribution through a multi-layer trust network, with Solana node operators, dubbed Guardians, responsible for verifying devices, curating dApps, and enforcing community rules.</p><p>Seeker users will be <a href="https://crypto.news/solana-mobile-launch-skr-token-january-2025/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">able to stake</a> and delegate their tokens to these Guardians in exchange for various exclusive in-app features and staking rewards.</p><p>Solana Mobile has already confirmed many of its key infrastructure partners, such as Anza, Helius, Jito, DoubleZero, and Triton One, to serve as Guardians who will be introduced at the SKR token launch.</p><p>As Solana Mobile focuses on scaling its next-generation ecosystem, it <a href="https://crypto.news/solana-mobile-retires-saga-after-short-lived-two-year-run/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">pulled the</a><a href="https://crypto.news/solana-mobile-retires-saga-after-short-lived-two-year-run/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow"></a><a href="https://crypto.news/solana-mobile-retires-saga-after-short-lived-two-year-run/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">plug</a> on software support for the Saga devices in October last year, which sold in significantly lower numbers compared to the Seeker.</p><p>Read more: <a href="https://crypto.news/bitmine-stakes-60m-ethereum-total-2-62b-eth-2026/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow"> Bitmine stakes additional $60M in ETH, bringing total to $2.62B </a></p>
