Ueno Bank, a major Paraguayan digital lender, collapsed after its solvency ratio fell below the required legal minimum.

The collapse affected roughly 2.9 million customers, a large share of Paraguay's adult population.

Santiago Peña had a prior ownership stake tied to Ueno's owners (Grupo Vázquez) and said he divested in 2025.

Paraguay's lower house voted unanimously to impeach Peña, forwarding the matter toward the Senate.

Paraguay's central bank characterized the Ueno failure as an isolated case, not a system-wide banking crisis.
