The Compound Foundation posted its monthly progress report for October 2026 to the protocol’s governance forum on November 4, 2026, detailing concrete milestones on Compound’s next-generation V4 architecture alongside updated figures for its existing Institutional Market. The report positions V4 development as on track, with two specific technical components, the interest-accrual specification and the escrow and spoke architecture underpinning the new system, both having cleared internal engineering review during the month.
On the operational side, the report discloses that Compound’s Institutional Market, a dedicated lending venue designed for larger, vetted participants, held $50.2 million in combined deposits and collateral as of November 1, 2026, with $15.2 million of that deployed as outstanding USDC loans, implying a utilization rate of 72.7%. Crossing the $50 million mark represents a meaningful growth milestone for a market segment that caters specifically to institutional-scale participants rather than retail users, and the 72.7% utilization rate suggests demand for borrowing within that market remains healthy relative to the deposits and collateral supplied.
The report also confirms that most of Compound’s markets, which had been placed under a precautionary pause tied to the late-October Binance hot-wallet exploit, reopened on October 30, 2026, restoring normal supply and borrowing activity across the protocol after the brief defensive freeze.
On the cost side, the report discloses that Gauntlet’s security fee arrangement with the Compound Foundation has been restructured down to approximately $2.15 million per year, a reduction of roughly $4.2 million compared to the prior fee package. The Foundation also notes new hires during the month, including a Head of Protocol Engineering and additional smart-contract team members, signaling continued investment in engineering capacity even as certain costs are being trimmed elsewhere, a combination the report frames as freeing up budget to redirect toward core development priorities.
Taken together, the October update paints a picture of a protocol simultaneously building toward its next major architectural version, growing an institutional-focused product line, and actively managing its own operating costs.
