Chainlink has introduced Chainlink 24/7, an always-on pricing service developed to support tokenized stocks, commodities, and other real-world assets (RWAs) on blockchain networks. By providing continuous pricing data, the service aims to address challenges faced by decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols when traditional financial markets are closed during weekends and holidays. Aave, a leading DeFi lending platform, has become the first partner to integrate Chainlink 24/7 into its institutional offering, Horizon, enabling round-the-clock pricing for tokenized U.S. equities used as collateral.

Bridging the Pricing Gap for Tokenized Equities

Traditional equity exchanges operate on set trading hours, while tokenized assets on blockchains can be traded any time. This mismatch has created issues for DeFi protocols that accept tokenized stocks as collateral, particularly if underlying assets change value while exchanges are closed. Previously, platforms either used the last available price, paused certain functions, or constructed makeshift systems to estimate prices outside trading hours.

Chainlink 24/7 aims to tackle this problem by combining real-world equity data with aggregated quotes from perpetual futures markets when traditional exchanges are closed. When markets are active, the protocol uses Chainlink’s 24/5 equity feeds. Outside these hours, it shifts to a system that pulls data from derivatives platforms, ensuring uninterrupted reference pricing for DeFi applications.

By merging real-world market data with perpetual futures pricing, Chainlink provides DeFi protocols with continuous access to reliable collateral valuations, minimizing disruptions tied to traditional market schedules.

Aave’s Horizon Integrates Chainlink 24/7

Aave has adopted Chainlink 24/7 to enhance its Horizon platform, which focuses on institutional lending. The integration initially applies to high-volume U.S. equities, letting users borrow against tokenized stocks even when underlying equity markets are closed. Aave, founded by Stani Kulechov, specializes in DeFi lending solutions and aims to provide institutions with efficient capital allocation while mitigating risks during non-trading hours.

At the time of the announcement, Aave reportedly secured over $34 billion in total value, reflecting its significant footprint in the sector. The collaboration with Chainlink is set to broaden use cases for tokenized equities, moving them beyond ownership and simple trading toward use as productive assets in lending and stablecoin issuance.

Chainlink’s Expanding RWA Infrastructure

The rollout of Chainlink 24/7 builds on the company’s previous solutions like the 24/5 U.S. Equities Streams, which already support over $1.6 billion in tokenized stocks across six blockchains. This infrastructure is used by notable platforms such as Ondo, xStocks, Robinhood, and Coinbase. The new service extends pricing data to cover weekends and holidays, complementing existing weekday systems and providing greater reliability for DeFi applications utilizing tokenized RWAs.

Chainlink’s oracle technology currently underpins about 70% of DeFi applications, over 80% of Ethereum and Solana-based lending markets, and more than 81% of tokenized RWA value. These figures underscore the critical role that accurate external pricing plays as more traditional assets migrate onto blockchain systems.

Managing DeFi Liquidation Risks on Weekends

Constant pricing updates for tokenized stocks, especially during weekends, introduce new risk factors. Perpetual futures markets can react to events before traditional exchanges reopen, occasionally causing divergences between derivatives prices and actual stock values. Chainlink’s solution aggregates and filters data from multiple venues to reduce the effect of anomalous or stale prices, but the risk of rapid asset devaluation and collateral liquidation persists.

Continuous reference pricing enhances stability for DeFi lenders, yet sharp market movements during off-hours can still result in immediate collateral adjustments or liquidations if tokenized equities experience significant declines.

Institutional lenders leveraging tokenized stocks for collateral may need to review risk strategies to address potential price volatility outside traditional trading sessions, making oracle reliability and responsive protocols essential.

LINK Token Sees Muted Response

Following the launch, LINK, the native token of Chainlink, showed limited market response. On November 4, LINK was priced at about $11.52, with a total market capitalization of roughly $8.84 billion and a 24-hour trading volume near $392.10 million.

While the new service further integrates Chainlink into the RWA and tokenization sector, direct token demand is not guaranteed. The long-term utility and impact of Chainlink 24/7 will depend on its widespread adoption across lending protocols, tokenized asset platforms, and derivatives markets as more traditional assets are brought onchain.
