Ripple, a US-based technology company specializing in blockchain-based payment solutions, has remained focused on bridging the gap between traditional finance and the digital asset sector. The firm has established partnerships with banks and payment service providers while maintaining compliance with regulatory standards to deliver scalable financial infrastructure.

Ripple’s payment network and the place of XRP

Sendi Young, Managing Director for Europe at Ripple, recently appeared on a cryptocurrency podcast to clarify the company’s strategy and XRP’s specific role within their payment ecosystem. Speaking about Ripple’s origins, Young emphasized the company’s deliberate choice to target real-world issues, particularly inefficiencies in cross-border payments, instead of showcasing blockchain technology for its own sake.

She explained that Ripple initially designed its network as a messaging platform to enable information exchange between institutions. As the market matured, Ripple incorporated digital assets, culminating in the integration of XRP as the final piece of this infrastructure.

Ripple leverages XRP, its native digital asset, for cross-border payments and aims to extend this integration further into its payment solutions and the XRP Ledger’s capabilities.

Young highlighted that the XRP Ledger operates as a public, decentralized blockchain, separate from Ripple as an organization. She noted its design priorities include real-time settlement, scalability, and sustainability in terms of energy use.

Separate from Ripple the company, it allows anyone to use its features without relying on a single central entity.

Community debate over XRP’s tokenomics

After crypto researcher SMQKE shared Young’s remarks on X, debate among the XRP community intensified regarding the token’s long-term value and utility. While several participants accepted Ripple’s explanation of the asset’s operational role, many questioned the implications for XRP’s market price over time.

A user named Gio remarked that XRP commonly acts as a bridge currency, entering and exiting institutional hands within seconds. He described this as a technical achievement for Ripple’s enterprise clients but pointed out that such rapid movement could limit upward price potential for retail investors who hold the asset over longer periods.

Similarly, Andis Teslonoks contributed to the discussion, contending that XRP does not need to achieve a high price to facilitate international transfers. Following a completed transaction, both sender and receiver typically have no further need to retain the asset.

The immediate utility of XRP for cross-border transfers serves the institutional market, but it leaves questions regarding how this impacts long-term value for individual investors.

Young did not directly address these tokenomics concerns in her remarks. Her statements instead centered on the existing and planned operational functions of XRP within Ripple’s payment network and the company’s ongoing efforts to expand its integration with the XRP Ledger.

SMQKE identified Young’s podcast comments as reaffirmation that XRP continues to be actively used within Ripple’s payment products and remains integral to the company’s future development plans.
