The exchange restored customer access following a significant hack, though reports differ on the scale of losses and reimbursement.

Binance has resumed customer withdrawals following what several reports describe as one of the largest security incidents in the exchange's history. The platform had paused withdrawals while it investigated the breach, a standard precaution exchanges take to prevent further asset loss during an active security event.

Daily Sabah Business reported that Binance confirmed the resumption of customer withdrawals after the hack was contained. Coinfomania similarly reported that Bitcoin withdrawals specifically had been reopened following the security event. Neither outlet detailed the exact technical nature of the breach.

BlockchainReporter put a figure on the incident, describing it as a $6.3 billion hack. That would rank among the largest crypto exchange breaches ever disclosed, surpassing several past incidents that shook investor confidence in centralized trading platforms. The figure has not been confirmed by Binance in the reporting reviewed for this article.

BeInCrypto offered a different angle, reporting that Binance covered approximately 95% of the losses tied to the hack. That detail suggests the exchange moved to reimburse affected users rather than leaving customers to absorb the shortfall themselves. The outlet characterized the event as a record-setting hack, though it did not specify the same dollar figure cited by BlockchainReporter.

The discrepancy between reports on loss size and reimbursement scope reflects the difficulty of verifying details during a fast-moving security event. Exchanges often release limited information in the early hours of an incident, both to avoid tipping off attackers and because internal investigations are still ongoing. Figures and percentages can shift as more forensic data becomes available.

Binance has faced security scrutiny before, as have most major centralized exchanges that custody large pools of customer assets. Hacks of this scale typically prompt renewed questions about hot wallet exposure, cold storage practices, and the broader custody model that underpins centralized trading. Proof-of-reserves disclosures, a practice several exchanges adopted after past industry collapses, are often cited by platforms seeking to reassure users that customer funds remain backed.

The resumption of withdrawals is generally treated as a signal that an exchange believes the immediate threat has passed. It does not necessarily mean the investigation into how the breach occurred is complete. Users and market observers will likely watch for further statements from Binance clarifying the cause of the breach, the final loss tally, and the extent of any reimbursement.

Market Impact

A hack of the scale described by BlockchainReporter, if confirmed, would place renewed pressure on centralized exchanges to demonstrate robust custody controls. Large-scale breaches have historically triggered short-term withdrawal spikes industry-wide, as users move assets to self-custody or to other platforms out of caution.

The reported reimbursement of a large share of losses, as described by BeInCrypto, could help limit reputational damage if accurate, since user funds would be largely protected. Regulators in multiple jurisdictions have increased scrutiny of exchange security practices in recent years, and an incident of this size is likely to draw further attention regardless of the final confirmed figures.

Binance's decision to reopen withdrawals marks an initial step toward normalizing operations after a major security disruption, though key details about the breach's size and resolution remain reported inconsistently across outlets.
