XRP 2

Rank

XRP’s standing within the cryptocurrency sector has shifted notably since the onset of Ripple‘s legal dispute with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Ripple, a San Francisco-based blockchain payments company, previously saw its native token XRP become the second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, positioned just behind Bitcoin.

Ripple’s legal battle and XRP’s market decline

Brad Garlinghouse, CEO of Ripple, reflected on the company’s history in a recent video discussion, recalling a time when XRP ranked immediately after Bitcoin among digital assets. Garlinghouse emphasized that prior to the lawsuit with the SEC, confidence in XRP had been substantially stronger than in recent years.

He pointed out that many in the industry now overlook XRP’s former market dominance, attributing its decline in part to diminished investor sentiment caused by the ongoing legal battle. Garlinghouse described the lawsuit as a difficult episode, stating it caused some investors to lose faith and contributed to XRP’s fall from its previous highs.

He addressed broader criticism that has surrounded the cryptocurrency industry, referencing remarks from policymakers such as Senator Elizabeth Warren and SEC Chair Gary Gensler. According to Garlinghouse, these narratives portrayed the sector as deeply flawed and linked with illicit activities, a characterization he disputes.

Garlinghouse argued that blockchain technology, including Ripple’s solutions, addresses tangible business needs and offers improvements for both commercial clients and consumers. He suggested the industry’s reputation would benefit from highlighting these use cases, rather than focusing on negative perceptions.

Garlinghouse recalled that before the lawsuit, XRP held the number-two spot in the market, emphasizing that many have forgotten this fact and that the legal case had a direct and negative impact on both XRP’s perception and position.

Ripple’s renewed marketing strategy and industry push

To counter the fallout from the SEC case, Garlinghouse noted that Ripple has intensified its marketing outreach, drawing greater attention to XRP and the company’s development milestones. He stated the need for increased education about blockchain’s practical applications and explained that Ripple has made substantial investments to extend its influence and spotlight the evolving XRP ecosystem.

Garlinghouse said Ripple views current industry momentum as an opportunity. He indicated that the goal extends beyond the company itself, with aims to support the entire cryptocurrency space through awareness and continued innovation.

By referencing the asset’s historical market position, Garlinghouse placed recent developments in context, acknowledging that the SEC dispute triggered XRP’s drop from its previous ranking.

Mini dictionary: Ripple is a blockchain-based technology company focused on enabling fast, low-cost cross-border payments for financial institutions using XRP as its native digital asset. Its legal dispute with the SEC centers on whether XRP should be regulated as a security.

Market predictions and community reaction

Digital Asset Investor, a social media commentator with substantial following in the crypto community, interpreted Garlinghouse’s remarks as a sign of ambitious expectations for XRP’s future. He suggested that Garlinghouse not only acknowledges XRP’s former prominence but may also anticipate the cryptocurrency surpassing Bitcoin in the rankings.

Supporters have argued that Ripple and XRP overcame significant regulatory challenges following what they described as concerted efforts to derail the project. However, questions persist within the community about XRP’s price performance and why positive developments have not translated into stronger gains for the asset.

Others, including online personalities Andrew JELL and Jean Vereeken, voiced skepticism in response to the optimism, questioning whether market fundamentals support such expectations and expressing frustration over XRP’s slow progress compared with rivals.

Digital Asset Investor interpreted Garlinghouse’s repeated emphasis on XRP’s historic market position as an indication that Ripple’s leadership may believe the asset is poised for renewed growth, potentially challenging for a top spot in the future.
