POL’s 24-hour gain of 11.63% ranks it #3 among top-100 cryptocurrencies by market cap on CoinMarketCap’s gainers list today. The token is pushing toward the $0.095 level, a range that had capped prior recovery attempts in recent sessions.
Trading volume over 24 hours reached $90 million, with spot volume on major order books running at $7.6 million. The orderbook bid/ask ratio sits at 3.55, a level firmly in buy-pressure territory, where anything above 1.3 signals demand outpacing supply on the books.
Funding rates across perpetual futures markets are at -0.0087%, a slightly negative reading that indicates shorts are marginally dominant in derivatives. That creates a classic setup for a short squeeze: spot buyers push price up, shorts get squeezed, and the cascade amplifies the move. More on this in Artificial intelligence summit –Indonesia 2026.

The Fear & Greed Index is sitting at 30, squarely in Fear. POL climbing double digits against that backdrop is not noise. Something specific is driving it.

What May Be Driving the POL Rally?

Three catalysts stack together here, each with real evidence behind it.

First: the token burn. Polygon co-founder Sandeep Nailwal confirmed on October 11, 2026, that the protocol had burned 100 million POL tokens, roughly 1% of total supply, funded entirely by fees generated on the network, not a treasury draw. That distinction matters: fee-funded burns mean the network is generating enough revenue to reduce supply without spending reserves.

About 1% of supply was reportedly burned with network-generated fees.

An additional 22 million POL, approximately 0.2% of supply, is already accumulated and queued for the next quarterly burn phase. The pipeline is running.

There is a nuance worth noting: over the past 30 days, approximately 17.45 million POL were emitted while roughly 13.23 million were burned, leaving a net supply increase of about 4.22 million tokens. The burn is meaningful, but the protocol is still net-inflationary at current emission rates. Today’s price action suggests the market is weighing the burn narrative heavily regardless.

Second: the revenue story. Polygon’s Open Money Stack crossed $1 billion in annualized processing volume for two consecutive weeks. The protocol generated $24.5 million in year-to-date 2026 revenue, outpacing Arbitrum at $8.41 million and NEAR at $5.6 million by a wide margin. For a network that was written off by many last cycle, those numbers are hard to ignore.

Third: a concrete product upgrade just landed. On October 27, 2026, Polygon launched a new trading feature for Polymarket that enables unlimited embedded wallets for free and 15-minute market trades as part of its Open Money Stack expansion. Polymarket is one of the highest-profile applications in the prediction market space, and tighter integration with Polygon’s infrastructure is a direct utility signal for POL. Just two days later, that move appears to be hitting token markets.

Polygon also reduced its block time from 2 seconds to 1.75 seconds earlier in 2026, pushing theoretical throughput to approximately 3,260 TPS, a roughly 14% increase. Transaction finality now targets around 5 seconds. Faster, cheaper infrastructure makes Polygon more competitive for the kind of high-frequency applications, like prediction markets and payments, where it is actively building.

It is worth noting that unconfirmed reports suggest Polymarket experienced a roughly $2.65 million exploit on October 29, 2026, with the attacker allegedly converting funds into approximately 28.6 million POL tokens. This claim has not been verified by a primary on-chain source and should be treated with caution, but if accurate, it could represent additional buy-side pressure on spot markets from that conversion flow.

The combination of a verified protocol burn, genuine revenue leadership over Arbitrum and NEAR, and a live product upgrade just 48 hours ago gives traders three separate reasons to rotate into POL. When those catalysts stack, the move can be sharper than any single factor would justify, which tracks with what is happening at the order book level today. For context on how quickly sentiment can reverse in this environment, see why tokens in the Solana ecosystem saw pressure earlier this week.

What Traders Are Watching Next for POL

The $0.095 level is the immediate resistance. A clean daily close above it would be the first confirmation that today’s move has structural follow-through rather than being a one-session flush of short positions.

On the downside, the $0.085 area served as support in recent sessions. If volume dries up after today’s gap higher, a retest of that level is the most likely scenario before any sustained continuation.

The key on-chain signal to watch is whether the next quarterly burn phase executes on schedule with the 22 million POL already queued. A confirmed burn would reinforce the fee-revenue narrative and likely attract additional coverage. A delay or cancellation would be a meaningful negative signal for the thesis.

Watch the funding rate closely. At -0.0087% today, shorts are marginally in control of the derivatives market. If spot buyers maintain pressure and price holds above $0.094, the squeeze risk grows. A funding rate flip to positive would signal that the move has attracted leveraged longs, at which point liquidation risk shifts sides.

Polygon’s Open Money Stack revenue trajectory is the longer-duration metric. If annualized volume stays above $1 billion and quarterly burns keep pace with emissions, the net-inflationary supply picture could flip. That would change the structural argument for POL considerably. Whether today’s 11.63% is the start of that repricing or a short-lived catalyst squeeze is the question traders are sitting with right now. Given what’s happening across the broader market this week, as seen in moves like the sharp reversal in Lighter (LIT), holding through volatility requires conviction in the underlying thesis.
