Solana’s real-world asset ecosystem reached a reported $5.19 billion on October 28, according to RWA.xyz data shared by the network. Yet SOL traded near $100 the following day, approximately 19% below its early-October peak, even as new payment infrastructure expanded the blockchain’s connections to conventional finance.

The contrast exposes an important distinction in Solana’s economic model. Tokenized assets can represent billions of dollars on the network while generating relatively little direct fee revenue, particularly when securities remain inactive after issuance.

The latest integration with Polygon’s Open Money Stack could increase payment activity, but its effect on SOL demand will depend on transaction volumes, fee generation and how businesses use the network.

Solana’s RWA Market Crosses $5 Billion

The RWA.xyz chart shared by Solana shows tokenized-asset value accelerating throughout 2026, rising from approximately $2 billion earlier in the year to $5.19 billion by October 28.

That represents growth of roughly 160% from the $2 billion threshold, although the chart does not distinguish between new issuance, asset-price appreciation and changes in data coverage.

The milestone reflects Solana’s expanding role in tokenized financial products, including securities, investment funds and credit-related instruments.

However, the dollar value of outstanding assets is not equivalent to trading volume or new capital entering the ecosystem. A tokenized fund can increase the network’s reported asset value substantially while generating relatively few transactions after issuance.

This distinction becomes particularly important when assessing whether financial adoption is contributing to Solana’s underlying network economics.

Polygon Adds Banking and Stablecoin Payment Connectivity

Polygon announced on October 29 that Solana is now supported by its Open Money Stack, allowing businesses to connect bank funding, digital wallets, stablecoin conversion and payouts through a unified API.

The integration builds on cross-chain connectivity introduced earlier in 2026, when Polygon expanded support for transfers involving Solana and Ethereum-compatible networks.

The newer announcement focuses on the broader payment process rather than blockchain transfers alone.

A business could, for example, accept funds through conventional banking infrastructure, convert the balance into stablecoins, transfer funds through a supported blockchain and arrange a payout to a recipient.

Combining those operations reduces the need to integrate separately with multiple infrastructure providers.

Nevertheless, the underlying dependencies remain. Banking partners control fiat access, compliance providers handle identity and transaction screening, and liquidity providers influence conversion costs and execution.

The integration also does not make Solana the exclusive settlement network. Polygon’s infrastructure connects several networks, meaning payment activity may be distributed across different blockchains according to customer requirements and routing conditions.

For Solana, the commercial opportunity lies in attracting recurring settlement activity rather than merely becoming another supported destination.

SOL Trades Nearly 19% Below Its October Peak

The SOL/USD daily chart from Coinbase showed the token trading at $100.73 on October 29, down 1.54% during the session.

SOL had previously reached approximately $124 in early October. Its decline to the latest price represents a drawdown of around 18.8%, based on that reference level.

The chart shows successive lower highs following the October peak, with buyers repeatedly attempting to stabilize prices around $100.

The immediate $99–$100 region remains important because recent candles have tested that area without establishing a sustained breakdown. A move below it would weaken the consolidation, while a recovery above approximately $105–$107 would challenge the latest short-term sequence of lower highs.

Momentum indicators remain unfavorable.

The 14-day Relative Strength Index stood at 36.89, below its moving average of 38.98. Although the indicator is approaching the conventional oversold threshold of 30, it has not established a bullish reversal.

The MACD line was at −2.58, compared with its signal line at −2.29. The histogram remained negative at −0.30, although its recent contraction suggests that downward momentum may be moderating.

The technical picture therefore points to weakening selling pressure rather than confirmed renewed demand.

Derivatives Exposure Rises Despite Weak Spot Prices

SOL derivatives open interest reached approximately $2.9 billion, increasing 1.80% over 24 hours, according to information from Coinalyze.

Binance accounted for around $1.1 billion, followed by Bybit with $624.6 million and Hyperliquid with $568 million.

Combined, the three exchanges represented approximately $2.29 billion, or nearly 79% of the reported total.

This concentration means changes in positioning on a relatively small group of venues can materially influence aggregate derivatives statistics.

The simultaneous increase in open interest and weakness in spot prices suggests traders are adding exposure during the decline. However, the data does not establish whether the increase primarily reflects new short positions or leveraged buyers anticipating a recovery.

Funding rates, liquidation data and trade-direction indicators would be necessary to assess that distinction.

Open interest expressed in dollars can also change with contract valuations, meaning a 1.80% increase does not necessarily represent an identical increase in the number of outstanding contracts.

The Fee Economics Behind Solana’s RWA Expansion

Data displayed by Token Terminal provides a more direct perspective on Solana’s ability to monetize network activity.

The supplied dashboard shows Solana’s latest average transaction fee at $0.00349, compared with $3.10 for the broader Layer 1 blockchain benchmark.

That makes the benchmark approximately 888 times more expensive per transaction.

The same dashboard reports a 0.1% market-share figure, although the screenshot does not establish the precise denominator or whether the measure refers specifically to transaction-fee revenue.

The comparison illustrates the economics of Solana’s high-throughput architecture. Low transaction costs make the network attractive for frequent transfers, payments and tokenized financial activity, but they also limit the revenue generated by each individual transaction.

These figures assume a constant average fee of $0.00349 per transaction. They are illustrative calculations, not observed fee revenue from Solana’s RWA applications.

For perspective, a hypothetical $100 million tokenized fund executing one million transactions at that average fee would generate approximately $3,490 in gross transaction fees, equivalent to about 0.00349% of the fund’s notional value.

Actual fees depend on transaction complexity, priority fees and prevailing network conditions. Furthermore, gross transaction fees are not identical to protocol revenue or SOL burned.

Solana’s fee structure distinguishes between base fees and prioritization fees, with different distribution and burn treatment. Consequently, the amount of SOL removed from circulation cannot be calculated from the average fee alone.

The economic trade-off is substantial. Solana can support large financial asset balances at low transaction costs, but meaningful aggregate fee generation requires considerable recurring activity.

A tokenized security held for months may contribute to reported RWA value without generating regular transactions. A smaller stablecoin balance circulating repeatedly through payments could create more sustained network usage.

For SOL holders, transaction intensity and the resulting fee economics therefore provide a different measure of adoption from the outstanding value of tokenized assets.

What Would Strengthen the Case for SOL?

The RWA milestone and Polygon integration demonstrate that Solana is becoming more deeply connected to conventional financial infrastructure.

Whether that expansion benefits SOL’s valuation depends on how frequently the infrastructure is used and which participants capture the resulting economic value.

Asset issuers can earn management and distribution fees, while payment providers may capture conversion spreads and service charges. Solana validators receive compensation through the network’s fee and staking mechanisms.

These revenue streams are not interchangeable.

For investors, the most relevant developments will be sustained growth in fee-paying transactions, stablecoin settlement volumes, network fee revenue and the amount of activity attributable to tokenized financial products.

Meanwhile, SOL’s market structure remains weak near $100, with negative momentum indicators and rising derivatives exposure that has not yet produced a convincing recovery.

The next phase of Solana’s expansion will be judged not only by the value of assets represented on the blockchain, but by how much recurring economic activity those assets generate.
