Michael Sullivan, a software engineer and the author of Bitcoin Sentiment Weekly, has analyzed recent sentiment trends and highlighted distinctive features of the current market environment.

Sentiment analysis reveals shifting market psychology

Sullivan reported that excitement, conviction, and desire among Bitcoin investors have decreased to levels not seen since 2015. He noted that these indicators point to an environment where many market participants express skepticism despite strong price performance.

He drew comparisons to the market climate in 2015 and 2022, emphasizing that overall sentiment remains cautious. “Excitement, conviction, and desire are at levels that strongly resemble previous periods of market disbelief,” he stated while discussing his findings on sentiment-based data.

Excitement, conviction, and desire have dropped to levels similar to those seen in 2015, which could signal an early phase of a disbelief rally as the market continues to climb.

According to Sullivan, such muted sentiment, despite high prices, could actually represent a bullish signal, suggesting that the current rally may be in its early stages rather than nearing exhaustion. He described the situation as “climbing the wall of worry,” referencing a classic financial term where markets rise as participants remain skeptical.

He also addressed how to identify moments when the Bitcoin market becomes overheated, pointing out that levels of excitement and conviction typically surge when the market moves into the latter phases of a typical bull run. The absence of such signals at current price points supports the notion that the cycle may have further to run.

Disbelief rally and potential new narrative drivers

Sullivan suggested that the current rally might reflect a broader disbelief among investors, a scenario where price appreciation is met with hesitation rather than celebration. He highlighted that short-term Bitcoin holders have shown signs of frustration, possibly due to missing previous price surges or uncertainty about the sustainability of current gains.

He further pointed out that Bitcoin could benefit from emerging macroeconomic trends, particularly advances in artificial intelligence and its impact on the global economy. Sullivan argued that AI-driven deflation may strengthen the case for holding Bitcoin as a long-term asset.

Comparing the psychology of buying Bitcoin near all-time highs with a strategy of dollar-cost averaging, he noted that new investors often struggle with decision-making during periods of rapid price change. Additionally, he observed growing integration between Bitcoin and traditional financial markets, which might improve liquidity and investor access.

Market outlook remains cautious

While Bitcoin trades near historic highs, the lack of widespread excitement resembles early-stage bull markets when investors remain apprehensive. Sullivan expressed that this environment might indicate further room for price appreciation before euphoria takes hold.

He maintained that tracking metrics such as language-based sentiment, short-term holder frustration, and ongoing macro trends could offer valuable insights into the progression of Bitcoin’s market cycle.

Muted excitement and persistent skepticism among investors at near-record prices may offer one of the strongest supports for continued bullish momentum in $BTC as the market shows early signs of a renewed rally.
