Gold’s retreat from its January record has brought a difficult question into focus: could an attempted recovery leave buyers exposed to another decline? Analyst Phantom_Defi warns that XAUUSD could face a painful test before a more durable rebound develops.
The warning comes <a href="https://captainaltcoin.com/time-to-buy-gold-gold-price-crash-may-be-near-its-limit/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">as gold remains</a> well below its peak. Spot gold traded around $4,030 on October 28, approximately 28% below the January record near $5,595. That decline has already removed a substantial portion of the earlier rally, but Phantom_Defi’s gold price prediction leaves room for further weakness.
His outlook eventually turns bullish, although the route toward higher prices could prove uncomfortable. A separate analysis from Umakanth raises another possibility: gold’s correction could take considerably longer to complete.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="phantom_defi-s-gold-price-prediction-warns-of-a-buyer-trap">Phantom_Defi’s Gold Price Prediction Warns Of A Buyer Trap</h2>
Phantom_Defi outlines a sequence that begins with a 32% selloff into weekly support, followed by a final capitulation phase. He then projects a 57% recovery toward $4,659 and an eventual advance toward $5,597.
<a href="https://trustwallet.com/blog/academy/what-is-a-bull-trap-in-crypto" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">The buyer trap</a> warning concerns the period before that projected recovery. Someone who interprets an early rebound as confirmation of a bottom could face further losses if gold resumes its decline.
A buyer trap develops when an apparent recovery fails and price falls back beneath the levels that supported the bullish case. The initial advance can look convincing, but its failure leaves recent buyers exposed.

Most investors will panic when $XAU crashes 32%. I’ll be watching for the buying opportunity that follows. Here’s exactly how I see it playing out: Phase 1: Brutal 32% selloff into weekly support. Phase 2: Final capitulation. Everyone convinced gold is finished. Phase 3: Violent 57% recovery toward $4,659. Phase 4: New all-time high at $5,597. The same people buying gold out of FOMO today could be dumping it at the exact bottom. And the ones calling gold dead after the crash could end up chasing it at new highs. That’s how markets transfer money from impatient investors to patient ones. I’m not interested in chasing gold here. I’m waiting for the moment nobody wants to touch it. I called Bitcoin’s $16K bottom and its $126K top. Now I’m watching for gold’s next major turning point. SAVE THIS CHART. If my setup develops, I’ll post my entry levels publicly. Phantom_Defi describes a possible period of intense selling before the recovery begins. His claims about widespread panic remain part of his forecast, however, and do not establish how investors are currently positioned.
The percentage figures also need careful interpretation. His post does not clearly identify the starting price for the projected 32% decline, so that figure should not automatically be treated as an additional drop from today’s market.
Similarly, the 57% recovery represents a projected move from a future low. The $4,659 and $5,597 levels are conditional targets, without a firm timetable.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="umakanth-identifies-3-560-as-gold-s-major-confirmation-level">Umakanth Identifies $3,560 As Gold’s Major Confirmation Level</h2>
Umakanth examines the gold price through an Elliott Wave analysis covering 1976 to 2026. His interpretation compares the rally from 1999 to 2011 with the advance from 2015 to 2026.
He describes the earlier Wave 3 rally as approximately 7.6 times its starting price. His proposed Wave 5 advance increased roughly 5.3 times, from around $1,045 to $5,500.

 #Gold | 50-Year Elliott Wave Analysis (1976–2026)
 Look at the bigger picture! <img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f4c9.png" alt="📉" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;">
 Gold’s Wave 3 rally (1999–2011) delivered nearly 7.6x, while the proposed Wave 5 rally (2015–2026) has delivered around 5.3x, rising from $1,045 to $5,500.
 But has Wave 5 really completed? Even I’m waiting for confirmation.
 I’m closely watching $3,560. A decisive break below this level could strengthen the case for Wave 5 completion and a prolonged ABC correction, with potential downside targets around $3,500, $2,800, $2,200 and $1,700.
 Historically, after a massive parabolic rally, #Gold can enter a prolonged period of range-bound consolidation and gradual decline before beginning its next major bullish move. Could the same pattern unfold again? Looks So .
 If this scenario plays out, Gold could spend years correcting and consolidating before its next major leg up.
 This is a conditional Elliott Wave scenario, not a certainty. Watch the $3560 level for confirmation and trade accordingly.
 I’ll share a more detailed analysis of this in the coming days! Stay tuned.

The comparison raises the possibility that a major bullish phase has ended, although Umakanth explicitly says confirmation remains necessary. His main reference is $3,560, where a decisive break could strengthen the case for a completed Wave 5.
Elliott Wave analysis organizes price movements into advancing and corrective sequences. The wave count is an interpretation of market structure, so the proposed pattern does not make a particular outcome inevitable.
Umakanth identifies potential downside levels near $3,500, $2,800, $2,200, and $1,700 if a prolonged ABC correction develops. Those levels describe a broader bearish scenario, not guaranteed destinations.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="the-gold-forecasts-differ-on-how-recovery-could-develop">The Gold Forecasts Differ On How Recovery Could Develop</h2>
Phantom_Defi and Umakanth both leave room for further losses, but their recovery outlooks differ. Phantom_Defi anticipates a forceful rebound after capitulation, compared with Umakanth’s possibility of years of correction and consolidation.
The main distinctions are straightforward:
<ul>
 <li>Phantom_Defi projects a selloff into weekly support before a recovery toward $4,659.</li>
 <li>Umakanth needs a decisive break below $3,560 to strengthen his extended correction case.</li>
 <li>Neither analysis provides confirmation that the projected bottom has already formed.</li>
</ul>
That difference matters because a rebound and a durable reversal are separate developments. Gold could recover within a broader decline without resolving the weaknesses identified by either analyst.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="gold-price-recovery-needs-evidence-beyond-an-initial-bounce">Gold Price Recovery Needs Evidence Beyond An Initial Bounce</h2>
The immediate question is whether XAUUSD can establish support and retain its progress after recovery attempts. Higher lows and sustained breaks above recent price peaks would provide stronger evidence than an isolated upward move.
A failed rebound would keep the buyer trap scenario relevant. Continued weakness toward $3,560 would bring Umakanth’s confirmation level closer and create a clearer test of his broader bearish interpretation.
Neither outcome has to unfold immediately. Gold could spend time within a broad range before either a recovery or a deeper correction becomes more convincing.
