<a style="text-decoration:none" href="https://bsc.news/post/cz-favorite-perp-dex-aster-explained" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Aster</a> is a decentralized exchange (DEX) for perpetual futures. Before trying it, beginners should know five things: what perps are, the risk of 1001x leverage, the fees, where Aster runs, and how to read its token and volume data.
<h2 id="span-span-what-is-aster-dex-span-span">What Is Aster DEX?</h2>
Aster grew out of Astherus, which merged with APX Finance in 2024 and relaunched as Aster in March 2025. Its ASTER token launched in September 2025. YZi Labs linked to Binance founder Changpeng Zhao, backs the project.
<h3 id="span-span-strong-1-it-is-mainly-a-perpetual-futures-exchange-strong-span-span">1. It Is Mainly A Perpetual Futures Exchange</h3>
A perpetual future, or perp, is a contract that tracks an asset’s price but never expires. Traders pay or receive a funding rate, a periodic payment that keeps the contract near the spot price.
<h4>What You Can Trade</h4>
<ul>
 <li>Crypto perps: BTC/USDT is the most active pair</li>
 <li>Stock and commodity perps: contracts that track U.S. equities and metals</li>
</ul>
Aster also offers hidden orders, which mask an order’s size and direction until it fills.
<h3 id="span-span-strong-2-how-risky-is-1001x-leverage-strong-span-span">2. How Risky is 1001x Leverage?</h3>
Aster has three perp modes: Pro, a standard order book; Shield, which keeps orders and positions private; and 1001x, a one-click mode.
At 1001x, a price move of about 0.1% against you equals your entire margin. Liquidation, when the exchange closes your position to cover losses, can happen even sooner.
<h4>Know Your Margin Mode</h4>
<ul>
 <li>Cross margin: the default, where all positions share one margin pool</li>
 <li>Isolated margin: limits losses to one position</li>
</ul>
<h3 id="span-span-strong-3-what-does-trading-on-aster-cost-strong-span-span">3. What Does Trading On Aster Cost?</h3>
Aster cut perp maker fees to 0% on February 2, 2026, Bitsgap reported. A maker order adds liquidity to the order book. A taker order fills right away.
<ul>
 <li>USDT perps: 0% maker, 0.04% taker</li>
 <li>Stock perps: 0% maker, 0.009% taker</li>
 <li>USD1 perps: 0% maker, 0.005% taker</li>
 <li>1001x mode: 0.08% to open and close, plus a flat execution fee. At 500x and above, there is no opening fee and the closing fee depends on realized profit</li>
</ul>
Paying fees in ASTER cuts perp commissions by 5%.
<h3 id="span-span-strong-4-where-does-aster-run-strong-span-span">4. Where Does Aster Run?</h3>
Aster supports&nbsp;<a style="text-decoration:none" href="https://bsc.news/post/what-is-bnb-chain-layer-one-blockchain-guide" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">BNB Chain</a>,&nbsp;<a style="text-decoration:none" href="https://bsc.news/post/what-is-ethereum-eth-how-it-works-explained" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Ethereum</a>,&nbsp;<a style="text-decoration:none" href="https://bsc.news/post/arbitrum-ethereum-layer-2-analysis" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Arbitrum</a> and&nbsp;<a style="text-decoration:none" href="https://bsc.news/post/solana-blockchain-ecosystem-deep-dive" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Solana</a>. It also runs its own blockchain, Aster Chain, which began a staged mainnet rollout on March 17, 2026.
<h4>Aster Chain Basics</h4>
<ul>
 <li>Speed: 50-millisecond blocks and no gas fees for trading, according to Aster’s documentation</li>
 <li>Privacy: an optional mode hides balances and positions using zero-knowledge proofs, which prove a trade is valid without revealing its details</li>
</ul>
Aster lists Chainlink, Circle’s CCTP and Fireblocks among its integration partners.
<h3 id="span-span-strong-5-check-the-numbers-behind-aster-strong-span-span">5. Check The Numbers Behind ASTER</h3>
In October 2025, DefiLlama removed Aster’s perp volume after Aster reported about $100 billion that DefiLlama could not verify.
DefiLlama now shows $56.09 billion in perp volume over 30 days, $1.345 billion in open interest and $773.87 million in total value locked (TVL). It marks the volume as offchain data, so it cannot be checked onchain.
<h2 id="span-span-aster-tokenomics-span-span">ASTER Tokenomics</h2>
<ul>
 <li>Supply: 8 billion maximum, about 7.79 billion total and 2.714 billion circulating</li>
 <li>Buybacks: since June 17, 2026, 99% of daily platform fees buy ASTER on the open market. Those tokens go to veASTER stakers, who lock ASTER for rewards, and an equal amount is burned from reserves until total supply falls to 3 billion</li>
 <li>Recent burn: 3.109 million ASTER, worth about $2.25 million, reported on October 5</li>
</ul>
<h3 id="span-span-strong-where-does-aster-trade-now-strong-span-span">Where Does ASTER Trade Now?</h3>
ASTER traded at $0.7113 on October 12, according to CoinGecko, with a market cap of $1.93 billion. That is 70.5% below its September 2025 high of $2.41.
CoinMarketCap’s AI-generated analysis on October 11 put support at $0.70 and resistance near $0.718.
<h2 id="span-span-conclusion-span-span">Conclusion</h2>
Aster offers crypto, stock and commodity perps on four blockchains, with zero maker fees on most perps, hidden orders and an optional privacy mode. Beginners should start with low leverage and isolated margin.
