BNY also intends to enable eligible clients to mint and redeem RLUSD directly through the bank, although the companies have not announced when that functionality will become available. The agreement forms part of a broader expansion of Ripple’s institutional business. The company separately announced a partnership with Robinhood covering stablecoins, corporate treasury management and institutional trading, while its collaboration with working-capital provider C2FO aims to bring invoice financing and settlement onto the XRP Ledger (XRPL).

What Does BNY's Expanded Custody Partnership Cover?
BNY’s support for XRP and RLUSD gives eligible institutional clients a bank-based custody option for holding, safeguarding and transferring the assets. The arrangement builds on an existing relationship in which BNY holds reserves backing RLUSD, rather than establishing a new stablecoin or replacing its existing issuer. The planned minting and redemption service could provide institutions with a direct route between dollar-backed tokens and the bank’s financial infrastructure. Minting creates stablecoins against the corresponding funding, while redemption allows holders to exchange tokens for dollars under the applicable arrangements. Direct access through a major custodian could simplify these processes for institutions that already maintain banking relationships with BNY. The expansion also follows other banks' efforts to connect digital-asset custody with institutional trading and settlement. FinanceFeeds previously reported that Standard Chartered launched institutional custody for RLUSD on the XRP Ledger, alongside plans to support its use as collateral for eligible LMAX Group trading products. For BNY, the latest arrangement extends digital-asset servicing beyond reserve custody into client holdings and potential tokenized financial applications. However, the announcement does not establish how many clients will use the new capabilities or how much transaction volume they could generate.

BNY is extending RLUSD from reserve custody toward institutional distribution and redemption. Adoption will depend on implementation, client demand and the operational terms of the planned services.

How Could Tokenized Trade Finance Work?
Ripple and BNY are also exploring tokenized trade finance on XRPL, focusing initially on supply-chain receivables through C2FO. The initiative aims to broaden investor access to approved invoices and improve how financing claims are represented, transferred and settled. Businesses can wait 30, 60 or 90 days to receive payment after delivering goods or services, tying up working capital needed for payroll, inventory and new orders. C2FO’s Instant Pay solution is designed to address the additional delay that can occur even when suppliers arrange early payment through conventional banking infrastructure. Under the announced model, participating capital providers fund early payments against approved invoices, with RLUSD used for settlement on XRPL. Suppliers can receive funds within seconds rather than waiting several days for bank transfers, while the original invoice terms and due dates remain unchanged. The distinction between financing and settlement is important. The blockchain does not eliminate the underlying invoice obligation or itself provide the financing capital. Instead, the proposed infrastructure connects participating funders, approved receivables and digital-dollar settlement within an existing working-capital marketplace. FinanceFeeds has previously examined how Ripple, JPMorgan, Mastercard and Ondo Finance connected tokenized Treasury redemption with traditional banking settlement. The C2FO initiative applies a related infrastructure concept to commercial receivables rather than government securities.

Why Is Robinhood Joining Ripple's Institutional Network?
Ripple’s separate Robinhood partnership broadens the same strategy across customer-facing services and corporate financial operations. RLUSD is already available on Robinhood Chain and Bitstamp by Robinhood, with availability in the Robinhood app expected later in 2026. Robinhood plans to use RLUSD on XRPL for institutional settlement and integrate Ripple Treasury to manage cash, liquidity, payments, forecasting and other treasury workflows. Ripple Prime will also support the relationship through institutional financing, liquidity and market access, building on existing connections between the businesses. The arrangement places RLUSD within a wider set of financial processes rather than limiting its role to crypto trading. A stablecoin used for settlement can move value between market participants, while treasury infrastructure manages the cash positions and payment obligations surrounding those transactions. That direction follows other institutional integrations. FinanceFeeds reported that Cross River added RLUSD to its banking platform, providing another route for eligible fintech customers to access stablecoin payments through banking infrastructure. Ripple says RLUSD has reached approximately $2.5 billion in market capitalization, with more than $1 billion issued on XRPL. The ledger has processed more than 4.6 billion transactions since launch, with settlement typically taking three to five seconds, according to the company. Those figures provide context for the network’s scale, but do not establish the volume of institutional trade-finance transactions that will ultimately use it.

Robinhood and C2FO extend RLUSD into settlement and treasury workflows, but commercial significance will depend on actual usage rather than announced integrations alone.

What Must Happen Before the Initiatives Scale?
The partnerships address different parts of institutional finance: BNY provides custody and is exploring direct minting and redemption, C2FO targets invoice financing and settlement, and Robinhood plans to use RLUSD across institutional markets and treasury operations. The next test is implementation. BNY and Ripple have not provided a timetable for the planned minting, redemption and broader tokenized trade-finance capabilities. The companies have also not disclosed projected transaction volumes or the amount of receivables expected to move through the proposed infrastructure. For Ripple, the commercial opportunity lies in connecting stablecoin issuance, custody, financing and settlement within workflows that institutions already use. The announcements establish a wider set of intended applications for RLUSD and XRPL, but sustained adoption will depend on whether clients use those services at sufficient scale to justify integrating blockchain infrastructure into established financial operations.
