Solana news now includes a proposal from Akash Network, the decentralized cloud and GPU marketplace. Its core team wants to leave the Cosmos-based akashnet-2 chain and run on the Solana mainnet. Holders are voting on the Solana migration through Prop 346.
Prop 346, titled Migrate the Akash Protocol to Solana, went live on October 26, 2026. This crypto news update tracks the vote, which closes on November 2, 2026.

Mintscan shows Prop 346 with strong support as of October 27, 2026. The tracker lists 98.41% Yes votes, equal to 43,727,943 AKT. Turnout stands at 49.56%, well above the 33.40% quorum. It listed six days remaining.

Under Cosmos governance rules, a proposal needs a simple majority "yes" vote and a quorum of bonded stake. The explorer labels the expected result as Will Pass. That is a tracker projection, not a final result, and votes can still change until November 2.

Why Akash Network Picked Solana: Lower Fees and DePIN Reach

The project explained its choice in a blog update about why it selected-solana. The team says a sovereign chain adds heavy costs. These include validators bonding AKT only for consensus, upkeep of Cosmos SDK and CometBFT forks, and extra engineering work.
Akash began the process with an open RFP under AEP-79 in December 2025. The Chain Migration Program then compared options such as staying on Cosmos, the Ethereum layer 1, and several layer 2 networks.
Two options cleared its technical, economic, and decentralization bar: the Solana mainnetand an existing EVM layer 2. it was picked for overall fit.
Main reasons listed by the project:

Lower fees: Marketplace fees are estimated at about 0.075 SOL per day. The project models costs as roughly 9x lower on calm days and 300x lower under heavy load than an EVM layer 2.

Technical fit:Native Pyth oracles, the Token-2022 standard, fee-payer relayers, and sub-second confirmations suit a busy marketplace.

DePIN peers: Helium moved off its own layer 1 back in 2023, and Render, io.net, Hivemapper, and Nosana already run on Solana. Akash would join that group.

Users and liquidity:The team points to roughly $15B in stablecoin liquidity and millions of fee-paying users each day on Solana.

The team does not hide the costs. Akash would give up its sovereign consensus and native IBC links. Validators lose their current income, and their roles end once the old chain halts. Finality and slashing are also less mature on it than the team would like.

What a Yes Vote Approves and What Comes Next for AKT

A Yes vote does three things. It approves the migration plan in AEP-79. It authorizes SPL AKT on Solana with the same ticker, 6 decimals, and unchanged total supply. It also opens a one-way portal for two years.
The Akash Network move runs in two phases. The token comes first; only after two independent audits pass, expected two to three weeks after approval.

Holders convert AKT 1:1 through the portal, and staked AKT unbonds for 21 days during migration. That window matters for stakers following AKT staking updates.
After cutover, new deployments go to solana. Existing leases get a 90-day wind-down before the old chain halts. Providers re-register after one daemon upgrade, and tenants keep their SDL files.
Prop 346 does not set a cutover date. Live leases, staking, and governance on the Cosmos chain continue unchanged for now.

Prop 346 Risks, Security Notes, and Final Takeaway

Akash lists a few safeguards for the token portal: independent audits, mint caps, balance reconciliation, and an automatic pause if the numbers don’t match. The team also warns about phishing and says only one portal is official. Check every link on Akash’s own channels before you connect a crypto wallet to anything related to the token move.
The fee savings are the project’s own estimates, so treat them with care. The vote also runs until November 2, and the marketplace still has to pass more testing before any cutover.
The next crypto news update will likely come from the Prop 346 result, the two token audits, and a later cutover proposal.
For Akash Network, the plan means giving up its own chain in exchange for lower costs and a bigger pool of users. Stakers have backed it strongly so far. The proposal still needs to clear audits, complete testing, and secure one final vote before the marketplace can launch on Solana.
