On-chain analytics firm Bitquery found that Initia's USDC bridge reserve fell to just $63 during an exploit on October 23, according to a report published by CryptoSlate. The firm also counted 55 ordinary withdrawal attempts that failed during the same incident, offering the first granular data point on how severely the bridge's liquidity was depleted while the attack was underway.
The $63 figure represents the USDC reserve held in Initia's bridge contract at the lowest point recorded during the hack, as reported by CryptoSlate citing Bitquery's analysis. Bitquery's methodology focused on observable on-chain state rather than estimated losses, making the reserve floor a distinct data point from total stolen value. The two figures should not be conflated. The incident sits within a wider pattern of bridge exploits that have repeatedly exposed the fragility of cross-chain liquidity pools. Initia's blockchain had already drawn attention earlier in the month when a hacker printed $2.7 million in crypto and the chain halted, making the October 23 event the second significant security incident for the network in a short window.
55 Ordinary Withdrawal Attempts Failed, Bitquery Counted

Beyond the reserve floor, Bitquery counted 55 failed ordinary withdrawals during the October 23 incident. These are characterized as "ordinary" withdrawals, meaning standard user-initiated exits from the bridge rather than privileged or administrative transactions.
The count of 55 is an observed tally of failed transactions, not a measure of the dollar value locked in those attempts, the identities of the users behind them, or whether those users were later made whole. Bitquery's report does not establish the cause of each failure or link them individually to the exploit mechanics. They are presented as a concurrent count, a signal of user-side disruption during the window when reserve liquidity was near zero.
Bridge failures that strand user withdrawals carry direct parallels to custodial insolvency events: users submit valid exit requests that the system cannot honor because the reserve backing those exits has been removed. The mechanism is structurally similar to what occurred in the Multichain incident, where a New York court moved to freeze stolen USDC after cross-chain bridge reserves were drained. In Initia's case, Bitquery's data shows the reserve reached $63, a level at which virtually any withdrawal of meaningful size would fail.

What the Bitquery Report Does and Does Not Establish

The two data points from Bitquery, a $63 reserve low and 55 failed withdrawals, describe observable on-chain state during a specific time window. They do not, on their own, establish the total value extracted by the attacker, the exploit vector used, or whether Initia has since reimbursed affected users.
No verified facts from this incident have been independently confirmed in the research underlying this report. The CryptoSlate article citing Bitquery is the single identified secondary source for both figures. Readers should treat the numbers as Bitquery's reported observations pending any official post-mortem from the Initia team or an independent on-chain audit that traces the full transaction sequence.
The distinction between a reserve floor and a loss figure matters in assessing bridge security. A reserve can be drained to near zero by a single large withdrawal, whether legitimate or malicious, without that drain equaling total protocol losses. Conversely, even a $63 reserve makes a bridge functionally insolvent for any user attempting to exit with more than a trivial amount of USDC, which is consistent with the 55 failed withdrawals Bitquery recorded.
Stablecoin bridge security has attracted increasing scrutiny from both regulators and legislators. Recent legislative efforts such as the GENIUS Act have prompted institutional players to rethink how stablecoin reserves are structured and custodied, with State Street launching a GENIUS Act-aligned stablecoin reserve fund with Anchorage as one downstream response to that pressure. The Initia incident illustrates the operational risk that persists in on-chain bridge implementations even as off-chain reserve standards tighten.
For Bitcoin holders and network participants, cross-chain bridge exploits reinforce the security argument for Bitcoin's native settlement layer. Bitcoin's UTXO model and lack of a smart contract execution environment eliminate the attack surface that bridge contracts present. Every major bridge exploit, from Ronin to Wormhole to the current Initia incident, adds to the empirical record of risks that arise when assets are moved across trust boundaries that Bitcoin's base layer was designed to avoid. Bitcoin's proof-of-work difficulty has continued to set records through this period, with the network's hashrate signaling that miners remain committed to securing the chain regardless of turbulence in the broader DeFi ecosystem.
