Chainlink and LG CNS announced a partnership on October 22, 2026 aimed at building oracle and interoperability infrastructure to support Korea’s growing institutional digital asset and won-denominated stablecoin market. The companies’ joint release values that market at $68 billion, framing Korea as one of the more active and technologically advanced digital asset markets globally despite receiving less international attention than markets like the United States or Hong Kong.
The release cites data showing Korean stablecoins already have more than 11 million eligible users, and notes that the Korean won ranks second globally in cryptocurrency trading volume behind only the US dollar, according to figures from market data provider Kaiko cited in the announcement. Those figures underscore just how active Korean retail and institutional crypto trading activity already is, even as the country’s regulatory and institutional digital-asset infrastructure continues to develop alongside that trading volume.
LG CNS brings particular relevance to the partnership through its existing role as lead contractor on the Bank of Korea’s Project Hangang, a central bank digital currency pilot program. The first phase of that pilot covered approximately 80,000 customers across seven participating banks, giving LG CNS direct, hands-on experience building digital currency infrastructure at the direction of Korea’s own central bank, experience the company can now bring to its commercial partnership with Chainlink.
LG CNS operates as the IT services arm of the broader LG Group, a conglomerate the release describes as holding approximately 186 trillion South Korean won in assets spread across 63 affiliated companies, with a combined market capitalization above $100 billion. That scale gives the Chainlink partnership backing from one of Korea’s largest and most established corporate groups, rather than a smaller or less established technology partner.
Johann Eid, Chief Business Officer at Chainlink Labs, said Korea is one of the most active and technologically advanced digital asset markets in the world, while Hongkeun Kim, Executive Vice President at LG CNS, said Korea’s financial infrastructure is entering the tokenization era. Chainlink has positioned itself broadly as infrastructure for connecting blockchains to real-world data and for enabling interoperability between different blockchain networks, making it a natural technology partner for a market like Korea’s that is still building out the connective infrastructure needed to support institutional-scale digital asset activity.
