<a href="https://coincodex.com/crypto/zcash/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Zcash (ZEC) rebounded sharply</a> on October 21, with the privacy-focused cryptocurrency gaining approximately 6% in an intraday market snapshot as traders returned following a prolonged correction.
The recovery came despite substantial withdrawals from Grayscale's Zcash exchange-traded fund, ZCSH. An October 21 market summary cited approximately $115.5 million in redemptions across 13 October trading sessions, although the figure represents reported withdrawals rather than a reconciled monthly net-flow total.
ZEC recovered toward $1,260-$1,285 after falling near $1,040 on October 19. The move brought renewed attention to resistance around $1,300–$1,350, where previous recovery attempts encountered selling pressure.Zcash ETF Withdrawals Raise Questions About Institutional Demand
The Zcash ETF has experienced considerable selling pressure during October, contrasting with the rapid institutional accumulation seen during September's rally.
A separate fund-flow tracker reported $10.4 million in net withdrawals on October 19, following $14.8 million on October 15. However, the same dataset showed approximately $1.6 million returning to ZCSH on October 20.
These observations suggest institutional demand has become uneven rather than disappearing completely.
The reversal is significant because <a href="https://coinpaper.com/37333/zec-risks-falling-below-1000-as-coinshares-analyst-warns-leverage-is-amplifying-the-selloff" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">ETF investment</a> previously helped support Zcash's extraordinary rise, even as excessive leverage left the market vulnerable to sharp corrections.
Fund redemptions also do not translate directly into an equivalent decline in ZEC's market capitalization. Changes in ETF assets reflect both investor flows and movements in the underlying cryptocurrency's price.&amp;lt;iframe src=”https://widgets.coincodex.com/w/9815120e-b0d6-487b-ba90-bbde29f1c759?site=coinpaper&amp;amp;mode=light” width=”100%” height=”420” frameborder=”0” referrerpolicy=”no-referrer-when-downgrade” style=”border:0;background:transparent;border-radius:0px;”&amp;gt;&amp;lt;/iframe&amp;gt;ZEC Short Liquidations Accelerate as Price Recovers
Derivatives markets provide another explanation for the latest volatility.
An October 21 market snapshot placed ZEC futures liquidations around $11.74 million over 24 hours, with short positions accounting for approximately 82.8%.
Forced closing of bearish positions can temporarily increase buying pressure, particularly in markets where liquidity is limited relative to leveraged trading activity.
However, Zcash's earlier <a href="https://coinpaper.com/35346/zcashs-1000-breakout-is-punishing-shorts-and-the-risk-is-growing" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">September breakout</a> demonstrated how aggressive derivatives positioning can magnify price movements in both directions.
The recent recovery follows an even steeper <a href="https://coinpaper.com/37204/zcash-falls-8-from-1650-peak-is-zec-erasing-its-2026-rally" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">October selloff</a>, which pushed ZEC more than 25% below its late-September highs.
Technical analysis now identifies $1,300–$1,350 as the primary resistance region. A sustained breakout could reopen a path toward $1,400, while rejection would leave the recovery vulnerable.Zcash Price Prediction: Can ZEC Reclaim $1,350?
The bullish scenario requires Zcash to establish support above $1,250 before challenging $1,300 and $1,350.
A successful breakout could bring $1,400 into focus, although returning to September's peak above $1,650 would require a considerably stronger recovery.
Conversely, renewed weakness below $1,200 could expose $1,100 and the recent $1,040 low.
The network's forthcoming NU7 upgrade remains another potential catalyst. As Coinpaper's <a href="https://coinpaper.com/37441/zcash-price-prediction-zec-drops-5-ahead-of-october-20-upgrade-decision" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">upgrade coverage</a> explained, the proposal targets faster block production and other protocol changes, but activation depends on developer readiness.
Zcash's privacy infrastructure also remains important following earlier <a href="https://coinpaper.com/31879/zcash-bug-news-ai-audit-clears-protocol-after-orchard-fix" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">security improvements</a> addressing vulnerabilities in shielded transactions.
Those developments support the longer-term technology narrative, while the cryptocurrency's inclusion among <a href="https://coinpaper.com/32507/we-picked-8-cryptocurrencies-to-invest-1000-in-for-october-2026" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">October investment candidates</a> illustrates continued market interest despite volatility.
