Today’s avalanche crypto news comes from college sports, not DeFi. Marquette University Athletics has launched Marquette Rewards, a fan loyalty program built with Uptop on the Avalanche blockchain, just in time for basketball season.
Everyday spending can turn into points for tickets, merchandise, and experiences.
Below is a clear breakdown of the announcement, the companies behind it, and what the market data actually shows for AVAX.

What Marquette Rewards Is

According to theofficial Marquette Athletics announcement, the university has launched a new fan engagement and loyalty program created with Uptop, a Rain company.
The goal is to recognize fans for the ways they already support the Golden Eagles, with fast earning and redemption powered by technology and infrastructure built on Avalanche.
TheAvalanche post on X explains it simply: fans can earn tickets, merch and experiences through everyday purchases at participating businesses.

How Earning and Redeeming Points Works

In the same release, Uptop’s Head of Partnerships, Zac Sebo, says Golden Eagles fans spend with the businesses that support their teams all season long, and the program lets them back the team through a single account.
Fans pay the way they normally would, and points land in their balance almost instantly.
The athletics department also plans to bring existing corporate partners into the program with exclusive offers.

More ways to earn after launch

The release does not publish earning rates or a list of participating businesses, so readers should watch official channels for details.
The timing is notable: Uptop’s own post on X calls the launch a new way to get rewarded just in time for basketball season.

The Companies Behind the Program

Uptop’s website describes a sports loyalty platform that is part of Rain, a global stablecoin payments platform.
It says brands can launch co-branded cards with Rain as the issuing partner and that no point-of-sale changes are needed.
Reward types listed include NFT rewards, coupons, memberships, tokens, subscriptions and sweepstakes, and users can sign up for an Uptop wallet or connect their own.
Uptop’s site also pitches sponsor reporting, saying brands can connect fan activity to partner results, and describes co-branded cards as a possible new revenue stream for organizations.
The Marquette release does not say which of these features the program uses. It does note that Learfield’s Marquette Sports Properties, the exclusive multimedia rights holder, facilitated the agreement.

A Growing Roster, Starting With Penn State

This is not Uptop’s first campus launch.Penn State’s official athletics site announced Penn State Rewards in August 2026, with the same goal of recognizing fans and connecting existing partners.
There, Uptop is described as an onchain rewards platform that turns everyday purchases into loyalty across sports, entertainment, travel, dining and retail.
The Avalanche post adds that the Golden Eagles join a growing roster of schools and teams on Uptop.
The platform’s homepage also displays logos for institutions such as Baylor, Nevada, Michigan and Memphis, although it does not describe those relationships.
This avalanche crypto news shows a pattern: fans see loyalty points first, while blockchain works in the background.

AVAX Price Check: Is the News Moving the Market?

Many readers will ask whether this avalanche crypto news is pushing the token higher. The data does not show a clear link.
Yahoo Finance showed AVAX near $9.79 at 10:55 PM UTC on October 20, up 1.83% on the day, while OKX showed about $9.82, up 2.45% over 24 hours.

Context matters.Investing.com’s Binance history shows AVAX closing near $11.13 on October 5 and falling about 9.5% on October 8 alone, long before this announcement.
With at least three daily moves above 5% in early October, a 2% gain cannot be credited to one university program. It also helps to separate adoption from price.
A loyalty launch adds real-world users and transactions, which can matter over time, but token prices usually respond to wider forces such as overall market mood, trading volume and liquidity.
AVAX also sits well below the $21.07 top of its 52-week range, which makes one campus launch look small next to those bigger factors.
Still, watch these signals:

More schools launching on Uptop

Official user numbers from the programs

Overall market direction: Bitcoin down about 1% on October 20

Conclusion

This avalanche crypto news is a practical example of blockchain reaching everyday supporters without asking them to understand the technology.
The announcement is positive for the ecosystem, but it is not proof of a price move.
Treat it as a long-term adoption signal, not a trading trigger, and remember that this article is not investment advice.
