Aave Labs has proposed onboarding Tether America USD (USAT) to the Aave V4 Core Instance on Avalanche, beginning the governance process for a stablecoin that had previously been identified as the intended borrowing asset in a planned tokenized-asset credit market on the network.

The October 19 proposal was submitted through Aave’s Direct to AIP route, according to the Aave Governance forum. It is a proposal rather than a completed deployment: risk parameters and the final configuration have not yet been supplied, leaving the market design and approval process unfinished.

USAT proposal targets Avalanche Core Instance

The proposed Avalanche token contract is 0x9A5926fd88F747c357738b1e82aFB46AB80f0A6b. Listing that address gives governance participants a specific asset to assess, but does not establish the borrowing and collateral conditions that would govern its use in the Core Instance.

Those conditions are central to an Aave asset onboarding. The forum post does not yet provide the risk settings or final configuration for USAT, so it does not specify the eventual parameters under which users could supply or borrow the stablecoin. Aave Labs said it will seek community and service-provider feedback before adding those settings.

After that work, the stated process calls for publication of an Aave Improvement Proposal (AIP) vote. That vote would provide final confirmation and enable on-chain enforcement, making it the remaining formal governance milestone described in the proposal.

Anchorage-issued USAT is positioned as the dollar leg

The proposal describes USAT as a dollar stablecoin issued by Anchorage Digital Bank, N.A. It identifies Anchorage as a federally chartered national trust bank supervised by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, and states that USAT is redeemable one-for-one for US dollars.

That issuer and redemption description underpins the governance post’s presentation of the asset, but the proposal concerns USAT specifically on Avalanche—not activation across Aave’s markets more broadly.

In the prospective Avalanche market, the stablecoin is intended to serve a practical dollar-denominated borrowing role. Its introduction with the proposed setup remains dependent on the still-pending feedback, risk configuration and AIP vote.

Link to the tokenized-asset credit market

The onboarding proposal follows an earlier statement from Avalanche that Aave planned a dedicated tokenized-asset credit market on the chain. In its September 16 announcement, Avalanche said USAT would be the first asset institutions could borrow against tokenized real-world assets.

That framing makes the new governance proposal more than a routine request to add a stablecoin. If approved and configured, USAT could provide the initial borrowing asset for the credit-market structure Avalanche outlined, while tokenized real-world assets would be the collateral side of that arrangement.

Neither the October governance post nor Avalanche’s September announcement supplies the outstanding Aave risk settings for the proposed USAT onboarding. The proposal therefore advances the stablecoin toward the stated lending use case, but does not settle the final operating terms for that market.

Avalanche V4 architecture and governance work

Aave V4 went live on Avalanche on July 15 as Aave’s first multi-chain deployment. The protocol’s launch announcement said the system uses a Hub-and-Spoke architecture designed to share liquidity across specialised markets.

The planned tokenized-asset market and the proposed USAT onboarding sit within that Avalanche V4 setting. The architecture is relevant because Aave has described V4 as supporting specialised markets while using shared liquidity, rather than presenting the proposal as an isolated product outside the deployment.

For now, the concrete next work remains governance-led: collect feedback from the community and service providers, complete the risk parameters, then take the proposal to an AIP vote for confirmation and on-chain enforcement. Until those steps occur, the Avalanche contract address is proposed and the final USAT market configuration remains unresolved.
