Mt. Gox’s rehabilitation trustee has extended the deadline for several creditor repayment categories by one year, moving it from October 31, 2026, to October 31, 2027, Japan Standard Time. The trustee announced the court-approved change on October 16, meaning creditors still awaiting payments under the affected categories now face a later completion date.

The extension applies to Base Repayment, Early Lump-Sum Repayment and Intermediate Repayment, according to the Mt. Gox Rehabilitation Trustee’s notice. The previous deadline had been October 31, 2026.

The trustee said it received permission from the court before revising the date. The notice sets October 31, 2027, as the new deadline in Japan Standard Time for the three repayment types.

Unfinished creditor procedures and processing problems

Many creditors have yet to receive repayment, the trustee said, because they have not completed required procedures or have encountered problems during repayment processing; the delay concerns those outstanding creditor-level steps and execution issues, not a newly announced change to the approved repayment categories.

The trustee’s notice established the revised deadline for payments that could not be completed by the former October 2026 date, but it did not quantify how many creditors remain affected or provide a timetable for resolving individual processing problems.

Wallets linked to Mt. Gox held approximately 34,388 BTC as of October 20, according to Arkham data cited by Decrypt. The holdings were valued at about $2.8 billion at that time.

That wallet estimate provides a snapshot of Bitcoin still associated with the Mt. Gox distribution process, but it does not by itself identify the timing or recipient of any particular creditor payment.

Fourth one-year extension from the original deadline

The new date marks the fourth one-year postponement since the original October 31, 2023, repayment deadline, according to Cointelegraph. The October 31, 2027 deadline is now the relevant completion date for the affected Base, Early Lump-Sum and Intermediate repayments.
