Cysic shut down its cross-chain bridge after a reported exploit allowed an attacker to mint 10 million CYS tokens on BNB Chain. The team has not confirmed when the bridge will reopen, and key details about the attacker, the technical flaw, and the fate of the minted tokens remain unverified.

An Attacker Reportedly Minted 10M CYS Before the Bridge Was Halted

According to reports circulating on October 18, 2026, an attacker identified a vulnerability in the Cysic bridge and used it to mint 10 million CYS tokens directly on BNB Chain. The minting appears to have occurred before Cysic’s team was able to intervene. For related coverage, see UBS Forecasts Two More Fed Rate Hikes in 2026 and 2027.

Cysic responded by halting bridge operations entirely. That pause is a containment measure, not a confirmation that the underlying flaw has been patched or that affected funds have been secured. For related coverage, see SEC Approves Cboe Binary Options Linked to Coinbase and MARA Metrics.

The attacker has not been publicly identified. The exploit mechanics have not been disclosed by the project. What happened to the 10 million newly minted CYS tokens — whether they were sold, held, or transferred — is not established in available reporting. For related coverage, see Ethereum ETFs Lose $320M in a Week as Bitcoin Outflows Slow.

What the Bridge Halt Does and Does Not Confirm

Halting a bridge is a standard incident-response move: it stops further damage by cutting off the vector the attacker used. It does not mean the exploit has been fixed, and it does not mean user funds or the token supply are fully secured. For related coverage, see Bitwise XRP ETF Reaches $541.12M in Net Assets.

Unauthorized minting inflates a token’s circulating supply. Whether that translates into realized losses depends on whether the attacker was able to sell or liquidate the minted tokens before the team acted. No confirmed figure for financial losses has been published. For related coverage, see US Bitcoin ETF Flows Keep Setting BTC's Market Direction.

Bridge exploits on BNB Chain have a pattern of moving fast. The gap between first transaction and protocol response is often measured in minutes, not hours, which is why the disposition of those 10 million tokens matters so much here.

What Remains Unknown

The supplied reporting leaves several material questions unanswered. The identity of the attacker is unknown. The specific vulnerability in the bridge contract has not been described publicly. Whether the minted tokens were offloaded to markets or remain in an attacker-controlled wallet is unconfirmed.

Cysic has not published a post-mortem or remediation timeline as of this writing. Users with funds bridged through the Cysic protocol should monitor the project’s official channels for updates before attempting any further bridge activity.

Unauthorized minting events like this one are distinct from direct treasury drains, but the downstream risk depends heavily on what the attacker does with the supply they created. That question is still open. Whether Cysic can contain the damage and restore confidence in its bridge infrastructure is the story that has yet to be written.
