VanEck has reportedly asked the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission for permission to withdraw its Lido Staked Ethereum ETF registration. The move concerns a pending registration filing, not a live fund, and no SEC confirmation that the withdrawal has been granted has been reported at time of writing.

TLDR Keypoints

VanEck has reportedly submitted a request to the SEC to withdraw its Lido Staked Ethereum ETF registration.

The product in question is a registration filing, not a launched or approved fund; a withdrawal request means the issuer initiates the cancellation, pending SEC acknowledgment.

No SEC order confirming the withdrawal has been reported as of publication.

What VanEck Asked the SEC to Withdraw

The reported withdrawal request

VanEck's reported request targets its registration for a Lido Staked Ethereum ETF, a structure that would have provided regulated exposure to stETH, the liquid staking token issued by the Lido protocol representing staked ETH plus accrued yield. Asking to withdraw a registration is a formal administrative action routed through the SEC and requires agency approval before it is finalized. For related coverage, see VanEck Seeks SEC Withdrawal of Lido Staking Ethereum ETF Filing.

VanEck has maintained an active slate of crypto ETF registrations across asset classes. The firm updated a separate BNB ETF filing to add a staking objective, illustrating that the asset manager continues to pursue staking-linked product structures even as this particular Ethereum registration moves toward withdrawal.
Registration withdrawal versus an ETF launch or approval

A registration filing is a precondition for launching a new fund, not the product itself. Withdrawing one means the issuer is asking to remove a pending application from the SEC's review queue. It does not indicate that a fund was launched and closed, nor does it constitute an SEC rejection of the product concept. For related coverage, see Report Says Early Solana Holder Lost 181,000 SOL in Theft as Funds Moved to Ethereum.

The Lido Staked Ethereum ETF registration was never approved or listed on an exchange. Until the SEC formally acts on VanEck's request, the original filing technically remains on the agency's docket. Readers should distinguish between VanEck's withdrawal ask and any final SEC order addressing it.

What the Request Could Mean for Market Watchers

SEC response or subsequent filing updates

The next observable development is an SEC order or public notice acknowledging the withdrawal. Registration actions appear in the agency's EDGAR filing system, where updates to registration status are logged and publicly accessible. Watchers can monitor for any order that formally closes or modifies the filing.

Any statement from VanEck on the request

VanEck has not publicly disclosed its rationale for the withdrawal based on available reporting. Without an official statement from the firm, any inference about strategic intent, whether a technical refiling, a product pivot, or a response to regulatory uncertainty around liquid staking tokens, falls outside what the current evidence supports.

Why no conclusion about future Ethereum or staking ETF products can be drawn from this request alone

A single withdrawal request on one specific registration does not signal a broader retreat from Ethereum staking products. Issuers routinely adjust, refile, or restructure applications as regulatory guidance evolves. No inference about the viability of LST-based ETF structures more broadly can be drawn from this filing action alone.
