when

Sportsbooks and prediction markets both let you put money behind a view of the future. They price that view differently, settle it differently and suit different kinds of questions.
Some questions only exist in one format. Others, such as a Champions League winner, appear in both, and the better choice depends on price, exit options, settlement rules and the currency you hold.
Below: how the two formats differ, a question-by-question guide to the better fit, a worked comparison on one outright, and what to check on each side before you commit.

Both formats turn a forecast into a price, yet the mechanics differ at almost every step. The table compares them as they work at Dexsport, which offers both in one account.

One Outright, Two Prices

Outrights offer the clearest comparison, since the same question can appear in both formats. One step turns a price in cents into decimal odds.

From Cents to Odds

Decimal odds equal 100 divided by the share price in cents. Yes at 17 cents matches decimal odds of about 5.88, while sportsbook odds of 6.00 imply a probability near 16.7%.

A Worked Example

Picture a club priced at 6.00 to win the Champions League on the sportsbook and at 17 cents on the prediction market. Ten dollars on the sportsbook returns $60 if the club wins, while $10 in shares at 17 cents buys about 58.8 shares and returns about $58.80.

Here the sportsbook pays slightly more. Prices move independently, so the advantage can switch sides on another day.
Exit Options Differ

Both formats offer a way out before the result, though neither guarantees it.

Sportsbook Cash Out

Dexsport's Cash Out settles a whole bet early at a value above or below the original stake. It covers the full slip, never one leg, and cancels any Combo+ boost.

Prediction Market Sales

Shares can sell before resolution whenever liquidity exists. The price depends on the pool at that moment, so an exit can cost more than expected when activity thins.

What to Check on Each Side

Several checks prevent most surprises, whichever format you pick.

On the sportsbook: settlement rules for the market, stake and win limits by event tier, and Cash Out availability

On the prediction market: the resolution source, the close time in UTC and the combined Yes and No price

On both: the true price after costs, compared in the same format

Our breakdown of prediction market costs shows how to read the Yes and No sum. Dexsport operates through Dexapp LTD under an Anjouan licence, and its terms list arbitrage betting as prohibited conduct.

Conclusion

Sportsbooks suit match-level questions, props and multi-leg slips, with live markets and Cash Out. Prediction markets suit questions outside sport, such as elections, rates and crypto prices, and settle in stablecoins against a named source.
Outrights appear in both formats, so convert odds and cents to one scale and compare the payout before you choose. Exit rules, costs and accepted coins differ as well, and each deserves a look before money moves.
Check the law where you live, play only at legal age, and expect that KYC or AML checks may apply. Responsible gambling applies to both formats in equal measure.
