Zcash (ZEC) approached a September peak near $1,687 before slipping back toward the $1,400 region. The token closed the month at $1,414 after dipping to around $1,362 during the session. This price action followed one of ZEC’s strongest rallies of 2026, but the latest chart patterns and on-chain trends have left the market in a consolidation phase with conflicting signals.

ZEC technical outlook points to bearish consolidation

Following its late-September surge above $1,600, Zcash retreated toward the $1,360-$1,400 band and entered a period of sideways trading. Analysis by the trader @XRPathologist identified a rising parallel channel on the hourly chart that developed after the recent selloff, with the price climbing gradually inside the structure.

The analyst views this setup as potentially bearish. While the channel has allowed ZEC to recover from its lowest levels, momentum losses have become visible, particularly as the Relative Strength Index (RSI) shows bearish divergence on multiple timeframes. This means Zcash has struggled to maintain its gains while short-term momentum indicators signal underlying weakness.

@XRPathologist described the upper and lower lines of the channel as key levels to watch. A breakout above the top boundary could challenge the bearish narrative, while a drop below the lower band would likely increase the risk of a further decline. For now, traders are focused on the $1,400 area as a critical support zone following the recent correction.

Zcash whales move coins off exchanges during correction

While technicals show mixed momentum, on-chain activity suggests continued interest from large holders. Blockchain analytics platform Lookonchain reported that two wallets, widely believed to belong to the same whale, withdrew a combined 24,706 ZEC—valued at approximately $28.17 million—from Binance and Gate in the past month. The average price for these transactions was $1,140 per ZEC.

The specific wallets cited are t1ggpKAwzURp8SToryGH1ELeqTfHDNuttw7 and t1dB4hr2MdtjJ2mBnWqYyTRXjte6mTQ3XkN. Arkham, a blockchain intelligence firm, provided transaction data highlighting repeated movements from major exchanges to these addresses. Lookonchain characterized this as ongoing whale accumulation, even as prices declined.

Such withdrawals typically signal a reduction in the immediate supply available for trading on centralized platforms. However, without direct wallet ownership confirmation or knowledge of holding intentions, the full implications remain uncertain. The timing, amid a significant price pullback, is notable and suggests that some major holders preferred to transfer assets away from exchanges as the correction unfolded.

Zcash ETF flows slow after strong debut

Institutional demand has played a critical role in ZEC’s rally this year. Grayscale, a major crypto asset manager, launched the Zcash ETF (ZCSH) on NYSE Arca on August 25, making it the first spot Zcash product listed on an American exchange.

Initial demand for ZCSH was strong, with net inflows surpassing $233 million by September 18 and total assets nearing $890 million, according to figures from The Block. Grayscale executed a 3-for-1 forward share split at the end of September, adjusting the outstanding shares and per-share price without affecting the fund’s overall value.

Momentum cooled in late September as spot ZEC ETF flows flattened for several sessions, followed by an $8.12 million net outflow on September 28. The trend deepened on September 30, when $30.25 million left the U.S. spot Zcash ETFs, predominantly from ZCSH, though net inflows since launch remained positive at close to $268 million.

Such net outflows can indicate decreased institutional appetite in the short term but do not necessarily reflect broad selling by ETF investors. Grayscale stated that ZCSH had attracted over $70 million in cumulative inflows, alongside a $100 million investment by DCG International Investments.

Privacy and zk-SNARKs keep Zcash in the spotlight

Zcash’s core proposition centers on privacy, setting it apart in a crowded digital asset market. Zach Pandl, Head of Research at Grayscale, drew attention to ZEC’s steep rise from approximately $60 to around $1,500 over the past year and its increasing share of Bitcoin’s market capitalization, which expanded from below 0.1% to 1.5%.

Pandl believes growing demand for privacy-preserving blockchain technology could continue to support adoption. Zcash uses zk-SNARKs, a cryptographic protocol, to enable transaction concealment while ensuring ledger accuracy.

Mini dictionary: zk-SNARKs, or “Zero-Knowledge Succinct Non-Interactive Argument of Knowledge,” is a cryptographic method enabling a party to prove possession of specific information without revealing the information itself. In blockchain, zk-SNARKs allow for privacy-focused transactions where sender, recipient, and amount can remain hidden while maintaining network security.

These privacy features have helped raise Zcash’s market profile, making its underlying technology increasingly relevant to both individual and institutional users focused on transaction confidentiality.

Pandl highlighted how Zcash’s privacy-driven technology has fueled a rise in both price and market share over the past year, as financial privacy becomes a more important theme for users and institutions alike.

Key levels set the stage for next ZEC move

After September’s sharp swings, attention now turns to whether ZEC can maintain support around $1,400. If the token rebounds and pushes through the upper channel, resistance in the $1,600-$1,700 region could return to focus. Conversely, a dip below $1,360 would raise the risk of a deeper retracement.

At present, technical signals appear mixed, with whale withdrawals and ongoing institutional interest offering potential support, while waning ETF flows and bearish signals in the RSI suggest caution may be warranted in the near term. Traders are closely watching for confirmation in either direction as the market digests recent volatility and ZEC seeks a new trend.
