Picking the best layer 2 tokens October has to offer takes more than sorting a price table. Layer 2 networks sit on top of a base chain like Ethereum. They process transactions faster and cheaper, then settle back to the main chain for security.
Not every token filed under "Layer 2" still does that job, though. This guide compares SOON, ZKsync, Lisk, Immutable and Polygon on fees, activity and upside. New to the topic? Start with these&nbsp;<a href="https://www.coingabbar.com/en/crypto-blogs-details/layer-2-blockchain-rollups-explained-simply-guide" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Layer 2 blockchain basics</a>.
<h2 id="span-span-style-font-size-16px-key-takeaways-span-span">Key Takeaways</h2>
This best layer 2 tokens October shortlist comes down to three points.
<ul>
 <li>Lisk is closing its own chain. Treat it as a business pivot, not a scaling bet.</li>
 <li>SOON has the most supply still to unlock. Only about 3% of its fully diluted value circulates.</li>
 <li>Trading volume shows speculation, not network usage. Check each project's own data.</li>
</ul>

This list covers live networks with public token data, not presales. Each entry was checked against official documentation, project announcements and dated market figures. Unconfirmed numbers were left out.
<h2 id="span-span-style-font-size-16px-five-of-the-best-layer-2-tokens-october-2026-compared-span-span">Five of the Best Layer 2 Tokens October 2026 Compared</h2>
<h3 id="span-span-style-font-size-16px-1-soon-soon-span-span">1. SOON (SOON)</h3>
Current Price: $0.2918 | Market Cap: $99.23M
SOON is a rollup stack that brings the Solana Virtual Machine (SVM) to other base chains. The SVM is the engine that runs Solana programs. Its main network settles on Ethereum through a&nbsp;<a href="https://soo.network/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">decoupled SVM design</a> that separates execution from consensus.
Key Features
<ul>
 <li>SOON Mainnet is the flagship chain, while SOON Stack lets teams launch their own SVM rollups.</li>
 <li>The project says SOON is meant to be the gas token across SOON chains.</li>
 <li>Total supply is about 11.01 billion with no fixed cap, and roughly 340 million circulate.</li>
</ul>
Why watch now: Daily trading volume nearly matches the whole market cap, which points to heavy speculation. At the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.coingabbar.com/en/crypto-currency-news/soon-solana-optimistic-network-mainnet-launch" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">SOON mainnet launch</a>, the team claimed 50 millisecond blocks and sub-cent fees, so verify fee data independently. An unlock of about 20.24 million SOON, or 0.18% of total supply, is due in October.
Source:<a href="https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/soon/" rel="noopener noreferrer">SOON on CoinMarketCap</a>
Risk: Fully diluted value is about 32 times the market cap, so future unlocks matter more here than elsewhere on this list. The price also sits roughly 93% below its all-time high of $4.30.
<h3 id="span-span-style-font-size-16px-2-zksync-zk-span-span">2. ZKsync (ZK)</h3>
Current Price: $0.01212 | Market Cap: $131.11M
ZKsync builds zero-knowledge rollups on Ethereum. They use validity proofs, which show a batch of transactions is correct before Ethereum accepts it. The protocol's&nbsp;<a href="https://docs.zksync.io/zksync-protocol/rollup" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">ZK Stack rollups</a> can also join a shared network of chains.
Key Features
<ul>
 <li>ZK is mainly a governance token with a 21 billion maximum supply.</li>
 <li>Investor and team tokens follow a four-year schedule with a one-year cliff, a waiting period before unlocks begin.</li>
 <li>Up to about 0.8% of total supply can be unlocked each month.</li>
</ul>
Why watch now: A founder proposal would send network fees and enterprise licensing income into buybacks, burns and staking rewards. It is a plan, not a running feature. The network also changed its explorer setup, covered in this&nbsp;<a href="https://www.coingabbar.com/en/crypto-currency-news/zksync-etherscan-support-end-zksync-era-explorer-shift" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">ZKsync explorer support change</a>.
Source:<a href="https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/zksync/" rel="noopener noreferrer">ZKsync on CoinMarketCap</a>
Risk: Governance-only utility means little direct demand today. About half of the maximum supply circulates, so monthly unlocks keep adding pressure.
<h3 id="span-span-style-font-size-16px-3-lisk-lsk-span-span">3. Lisk (LSK)</h3>
Current Price: $0.2999 | Market Cap: $70.80M
Lisk is the twist. It once moved from its own chain to an Ethereum Layer 2. Now the team has launched a&nbsp;<a href="https://lisk.com/blog/posts/introducing-the-new-lisk/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">new money operations platform</a> for business finance teams, and the Lisk Chain closes on October 31, 2026.
Key Features
<ul>
 <li>LSK becomes a loyalty token on Ethereum, earned by businesses through platform use and referrals.</li>
 <li>Paying fees in LSK is planned, but no date has been given.</li>
 <li>The team proposed winding down the DAO and burning 100 million LSK, cutting total supply from 400 million to 300 million.</li>
</ul>
Why watch now: The 30-day gain is about 194%, yet the token's job changed. Older research that treats LSK as a Layer 2 growth bet no longer matches the roadmap.
Source:<a href="https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/lisk/" rel="noopener noreferrer">Lisk on CoinMarketCap</a>
Risk:The announcement describes rewards, not revenue sharing, and governance ends with the DAO. The platform still needs paying customers.
<h3 id="span-span-style-font-size-16px-4-immutable-imx-span-span">4. Immutable (IMX)</h3>
Current Price: $0.1707 | Market Cap: $150.22M
Immutable is a Web3 gaming network. It merged its two older networks, Immutable X and Immutable zkEVM, into one EVM-compatible Immutable Chain, giving developers a single place to build.
Key Features
<ul>
 <li>IMX is the gas token on the unified chain.</li>
 <li>Immutable Passport is a wallet built to onboard players with no crypto experience.</li>
 <li>Supply is capped at 2 billion IMX, and current figures imply about 880 million circulate.</li>
</ul>
Why watch now: The merge removed a confusing split. Activity now depends on whether games on the chain keep players coming back.
Source:<a href="https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/immutable-x/" rel="noopener noreferrer">Immutable on CoinMarketCap</a>
Risk: Gaming demand rises and falls with new releases. Fully diluted value is about 2.3 times the market cap, so unlocks and rewards can add supply.
<h3 id="span-span-style-font-size-16px-5-polygon-pol-span-span">5. Polygon (POL)</h3>
Current Price: $0.1144 | Market Cap: $1.22B
POL replaced MATIC as Polygon's network token at a 1:1 ratio. It pays for gas, secures Polygon PoS through staking and supports the Agglayer, Polygon's cross-chain layer. Market data groups Polygon with Layer 2s, yet Polygon PoS runs its own validator set, so it is not a rollup in the strict sense.
Key Features
<ul>
 <li>The Foundation said the Lugano hardfork is live on testnet with a mainnet target of October 1, per this&nbsp;<a href="https://www.coingabbar.com/en/polygon-news-today-ppgc-46-pip-92-lugano-fork-updates" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Polygon governance call recap</a>.</li>
 <li>The project claims 11 million payments per second. Treat that as a claim until independent data appears.</li>
 <li>POL carries yearly emissions of about 2%, which critics call dilution.</li>
</ul>
Why watch now: Payments and stablecoins are the growth pitch, and upgrades aim at reliability for that use case.
Source:<a href="https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/polygon-ecosystem-token/" rel="noopener noreferrer">Polygon on CoinMarketCap</a>
Risk: Market reports say one large prediction market app plans to move to its own chain. Timing is unconfirmed, but fee income could drop if it happens.

<h2 id="span-span-style-font-size-16px-how-do-fees-activity-and-upside-compare-span-span">How Do Fees, Activity and Upside Compare?</h2>
<h3 id="span-span-style-font-size-16px-fees-span-span">Fees</h3>
Fee models differ. Among the best layer 2 tokens October offers, SOON and IMX are built as gas tokens, and POL pays gas on Polygon PoS. ZK is mainly for governance, and LSK will not be a gas token once its chain closes.
So network growth does not lift every token equally.
<h3 id="span-span-style-font-size-16px-activity-span-span">Activity</h3>
Trading volume is not network usage. It only shows how often a token changes hands.
In this best layer 2 tokens October group, SOON turned over about 97% of its market cap in 24 hours. LSK reached about 29%, IMX 18%, POL 12% and ZK 8%. High turnover often signals speculation.
<h3 id="span-span-style-font-size-16px-upside-span-span">Upside</h3>
The upside depends on what has to go right. FDV, or fully diluted valuation, is the price multiplied by total supply.
For the best layer 2 tokens October shortlist, a low market cap to FDV ratio, like SOON's 0.03, means most supply is still locked. That cuts both ways, but unlocks tend to weigh on price first.
<h2 id="span-span-style-font-size-16px-what-does-the-data-say-about-the-best-layer-2-tokens-october-list-span-span">What Does the Data Say About the Best Layer 2 Tokens October List?</h2>
The stronger signal is scale and structure. Polygon dwarfs the other four by market cap. ZKsync publishes a clear vesting schedule. Immutable's chain merge also simplifies its story.
The main concern is role drift. Lisk is closing its chain. SOON's supply overhang is large. ZK has no confirmed value-capture feature yet.
The biggest unknown is fee capture. Whether ZK's revenue plan passes, whether IMX holds its fee share and whether Polygon keeps its large apps will shape each outlook.
Readers should verify unlock calendars, official documentation and migration deadlines themselves. Prices in this article will already have moved.
<h2 id="span-span-style-font-size-16px-final-words-span-span">Final Words</h2>
These five tokens do different jobs. SOON extends Solana's engine to other chains. ZKsync sells zero-knowledge tooling. Immutable targets games. Polygon pushes payments. Lisk is leaving the Layer 2 business altogether.
None of them is a safe pick. A Layer 2 label says little about what a token does today. For any <a href="https://www.coingabbar.com/en/best-layer-2-tokens-2026-arb-lsk-celo-alt-corn" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">best layer 2 tokens</a> October research, compare supply, unlocks and real usage before price. Then check each project's latest documentation.
