Bitcoin has gained roughly 43.5% in Q3 2026, placing it on course for its second-strongest third quarter. Only the 80.41% gain recorded in 2017 ranks higher, while Bitcoin’s current return has already surpassed 2013’s 40.6% increase. 
<a href="https://x.com/coinglass_com/status/2103920691573625047" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">According to CoinGlass</a>, the advance follows losses of 22.2% in Q1 and 14.09% in Q2, reversing Bitcoin’s earlier quarterly pattern. Data from CoinGecko placed BTC near $84,800, although September’s remaining sessions could alter its final quarterly ranking. 
The scale of this quarter’s gain stands out because Q3 has historically delivered far smaller returns for Bitcoin. CoinGlass places the quarter’s average gain at 8.73% and its median at 2.29%, well below the current figure. Eight of the 14 third quarters in its data have produced gains, although most were considerably smaller.

Bitcoin gained 25.01% in Q3 2021 and 17.97% in Q3 2020, making both strong years by historical standards. However, neither approached the roughly 43.5% return recorded during the current quarter, which also exceeds 2013 by nearly three percentage points. 
More recent third-quarter advances were considerably smaller, with <a href="https://36crypto.com/bitcoin-gains-36-as-stocks-stall-and-gold-slips-over-five-weeks/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Bitcoin</a> gaining 6.31% in 2025 and less than 1% in 2024. Meanwhile, losses of 39.74% in 2014, 22.86% in 2019, and 11.54% in 2023 show how uneven Q3 performance can be. 
Fourth-quarter figures provide further historical context, although previous results cannot establish how Bitcoin will perform when the next quarter begins. CoinGlass records an average Q4 return of 77.07% and a median of 47.73%, both substantially above its Q3 figures. Bitcoin gained 479.59% in Q4 2013 and 215.07% in Q4 2017, yet it also lost 23.07% in Q4 2025. 
Bitcoin’s current third-quarter return marks a substantial recovery from its first-half losses and ranks behind only 2017. Its position will become final when September ends, leaving the remaining trading sessions relevant to the historical comparison.
