CoinMarketCap announced it has acquired Coinglass, a crypto derivatives data platform, according to a <a href="https://www.globenewswire.com/news-release/2026/09/25/3369100/0/en/coinmarketcap-acquires-coinglass-bringing-crypto-derivatives-data-to-the-world-s-most-referenced-crypto-price-tracker.html" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">press release</a> published September 25, 2026 at 08:09 ET. The companies did not disclose the deal’s financial terms, including the purchase price or whether it was structured as a cash, stock, or mixed transaction.
Coinglass, launched in 2019, specializes in visualizing crypto derivatives markets, covering real-time and historical open interest, funding rates, liquidations, long and short ratios, options data, and ETF flows across 28 exchanges and more than 2,500 tracked instruments. The platform serves more than 5 million monthly users and 10,000 API customers, and its liquidation heatmaps in particular have become widely shared reference charts among crypto traders.
CoinMarketCap said the acquisition pairs Coinglass’s derivatives visibility with its own price-tracking service, which reaches 115 million monthly users, giving that larger audience a way to see how leveraged traders are positioned and where liquidation clusters sit relative to current prices. “Derivatives are where most of the market’s risk is taken, and Coinglass is where most people go to see it,” said CoinMarketCap CEO Rush in the announcement.
CoinMarketCap Chief Product Officer David Salamon echoed that framing, saying “open interest, funding and liquidations are where the market’s risk is actually taken,” underscoring that the acquisition is aimed at surfacing risk-related derivatives data to a mainstream price-tracking audience rather than only to traders who already use specialized derivatives terminals.
Coinglass emphasized continuity for its existing user base in the same release, stating “our website, app, free tools, API and pricing are unchanged, and our team continues to build the product our users rely on every day.” That commitment to remaining a standalone product, rather than being folded directly into CoinMarketCap’s own interface, mirrors how other crypto-data acquisitions have been structured to preserve an acquired platform’s existing user base and integrations while adding its data to the acquirer’s larger distribution reach.
The deal brings together two of the most widely referenced free data sources in crypto trading, pairing spot-market price tracking with the derivatives metrics that professional and retail leverage traders watch most closely, including funding rates that indicate whether long or short positioning is more crowded and liquidation levels that mark where cascading forced selling or buying tends to cluster. Combining that data under one company, while keeping Coinglass’s own site and API running unchanged, lets CoinMarketCap point its much larger price-tracking audience toward derivatives-market context without requiring those users to leave its platform or learn a separate tool.
