Simultaneous rate hikes could reduce global liquidity and increase volatility across crypto markets.

Larger, more liquid assets may respond differently than smaller altcoins during risk-off periods.

APT, SUI, SEI, ETH, and HBAR could remain key names to monitor as monetary policy tightens.

Global monetary policy is going through a puzzling period that may result in a significant realignment of liquidity in the financial system, as the ECB, Bank of Japan, and the Fed are all getting ready for a contraction. The change is significant for the crypto investor because historically crypto has been very sensitive to liquidity, borrowing rates, and risk appetite throughout the world. The ECB is known to have raised rates by 25 basis points this month, and there is increasing talk of a further 25-basis-point rate hike by the BOJ. Meanwhile, markets are valuing a high chance of a Federal Reserve rate hike.

That previous gap allowed for easy access to yen-backed capital to finance investment in bonds, stocks, real estate, and crypto. A simultaneous tightening cycle would diminish that support, drive up funding costs, and spur investors to trim holdings in riskier assets. Larger and more established cryptocurrencies with active ecosystems, high liquidity, and established participation in the market may behave differently during times of financial distress when compared to smaller, more speculative tokens. In this case, five names are gaining traction: APT, SUI, SEI, ETH, and HBAR.

Aptos Faces a Higher-Rate Test

Aptos (APT) remains closely linked to the broader Layer-1 market, meaning its performance could depend heavily on liquidity and investor appetite for higher-beta assets. A tighter monetary environment could increase volatility, while renewed risk appetite could bring buyers back toward established blockchain ecosystems.

SUI Remains a Layer-1 Market Watch

SUI has matured into one of the more popular newer Layer-1 networks. It is located in a sensitive zone in which traders switch between the main cryptocurrencies and higher-risk altcoins, meaning it is sensitive to changes in capital flows. Liquidity conditions may thus continue to play a significant role for SUI.

SEI Could Reflect Changing Risk Appetite

SEI is another network that could experience sharp price movements if global liquidity contracts. Its market behavior may increasingly depend on trading activity, ecosystem growth, and whether investors continue allocating capital toward smaller Layer-1 projects during a period of tighter monetary policy.

Ethereum Holds a Different Position

Ethereum (ETH) occupies a different position because of its size, liquidity, and role across decentralized finance. If global markets experience a broad risk-off move, ETH could still face selling pressure. However, its established infrastructure gives it a different market profile from smaller altcoins.

Hedera Enters the Macro Liquidity Debate

Hedera (HBAR) may also not be taken off the watchlist, with investors weighing the blockchain networks that have solid enterprise-focused narratives. However, its price would still be affected by general market conditions, so in the short term, a liquidity pullback in the market would dominate individual network developments.
