<p>Following the launch of spot Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs in the US in 2024, ETF products for altcoins such as XRP and Dogecoin were also offered to investors in 2025. However, the latest development in altcoin investment products is of particular interest to Dogecoin investors.</p><p>Accordingly, Bitwise decided to shut down and liquidate BWOW, which offered Dogecoin exposure, approximately 10 months after its launch.</p><p>According to Bitwise’s official statement, the decision was announced on September 10, 2026. BWOW’s last trading day on the NYSE Arca is scheduled for October 14, 2026, and the fund is planned to be fully liquidated on October 22, 2026.</p><h2 id="unexpected-closing-in-dogecoin-etf">Unexpected Closing in Dogecoin ETF!</h2><p>Bitwise announced that it has decided to close and liquidate the fund. The company stated that this decision aims to optimize its product portfolio in response to changing investor demand.</p><p>BWOW was launched in November 2025. According to Bitwise’s own announcement, the fund’s shares began trading on the NYSE Arca on November 26, 2025. Thus, the fund will close after an operating period of approximately 10 months.</p><h2 id="last-transaction-date-october-14th">Last Transaction Date October 14th!</h2><p>According to Bitwise’s plan, BWOW shares will last trade on the NYSE Arca on Wednesday, October 14, 2026. Investors will be able to sell their shares on the secondary market until that date. After trading ends on October 14, the fund will begin the process of ending its operations.</p><p>For investors who still hold funds, the liquidation process will be based on the net asset value (NAV) calculated as of October 21, 2026. Payments are planned to be made in cash on October 22. Bitwise states that investors do not need to take any further action for this process.</p><h2 id="why-is-the-dogecoin-etf-being-shut-down">Why is the Dogecoin ETF Being Shut Down?</h2><p>In its official statement, Bitwise explained the reason for the closure as “optimizing its product portfolio to meet evolving investor needs.” However, the company did not directly cite a specific reason such as low trading volume or lack of investor interest in BWOW as the official justification.</p><p>Finally, according to experts, this closure news is a negative signal for DOGE in terms of institutional demand and adoption.
