Zakura has released Zakura Common, an open-source cryptography and protocol library suite for the Zcash ecosystem, with reported optimisations that can reduce private-transaction creation from more than three seconds to under 200 milliseconds in some cases. <a href="https://www.coindesk.com/tech/2026/08/31/zcash-private-transactions-could-go-from-three-second-waits-to-under-200-milliseconds" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">CoinDesk reported</a> the sub-200ms result on August 31, two days after Zakura’s official release, potentially removing a multi-second delay from this part of the transaction process for integrations using the library.
The changes are client-side software optimisations, not an alteration to Zcash’s network rules. Zakura said the code is publicly available now and can be adopted without a network upgrade.

The headline result concerns the time required to create a Zcash private transaction in certain cases. <a href="https://cryptodaily.co.uk/glossary/understanding-zero-knowledge-proof-a-game-changer-in-cryptography" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Proof generation</a> is a central computational task for privacy-preserving transactions, making performance particularly relevant for wallet software and mobile use.
In its August 29 <a href="https://zakura.com/announcements/zakura-common/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">release announcement</a>, Zakura said its benchmark tests showed mobile proof generation running more than 14 times faster and desktop proof generation more than five times faster. The company also reported Sinsemilla hashing more than 21 times faster, alongside zk-SNARK verification improvements of four to eight times.
The results cover separate tested operations and environments, so they do not establish a uniform speed increase for every Zcash private transaction; the reported under-200ms creation time is similarly limited to “some cases,” rather than presented as universal.
Zakura Common packages cryptography and protocol components for the Zcash ecosystem. Its release puts the improvements into a library that can be integrated by software developers, instead of tying availability to a future chain-level deployment.

Zakura said the optimisations require no Zcash network upgrade, meaning adoption depends on client-side software integration rather than network-wide protocol activation. That distinction makes the code available for use without waiting for changes to Zcash consensus rules.
The library has been released under MIT/Apache 2.0 licensing, according to Zakura. The company also said Zakura Common will be included in Zakura 1.3.0, providing a named forthcoming software release for the new components.
