Cardano ADA News is centered this week on Ouroboros Leios, a scaling upgrade Charles Hoskinson calls the largest in the network's history. Development has passed 6,400 total updates, and IOG is targeting a mainnet hard fork before the end of 2026.

Cardano Ouroboros Leios Upgrade: Cardano's Biggest Plan Yet This Year

Ouroboros Leiosis the primary Layer-1 scaling plan for Cardano, fixing throughput limits in the current Ouroboros Praos setup. It adds parallel processing through endorser blocks alongside regular ranking blocks, letting transactions confirm faster without bloating block size or slot timing.
Recent MusashiNet testnet runs showed throughput near six times current mainnet levels, with longer-term targets ranging from roughly 30 to 65 times that baseline, potentially topping 1,500 transactions per second. This is the core reason $ADA news keeps circling back to Leios above all else.
The upgrade should help the network absorb demand spikes from DeFi, NFT drops, or gaming apps, and it supports long-term sustainability, since higher volume means more fee revenue for stake pool operators as reserve rewards shrink.
Ouroboros headlines the coming Dijkstra era, targeted for code completion in the fourth quarter of 2026, ahead of mainnet activation, per theofficial roadmap.
Peras, a follow-up upgrade expected around mid-2027, aims to cut settlement finality from roughly 12 minutes to about 2 minutes.

Cardano ADA Price Today: Token Climbs on Japan Listing News

ADA price today sits near $0.2218, up 1.83% over 24 hours, trailing Bitcoin's sharper 3.81% move but still pointing to steady demand. Current states as per CoinMarketCap:

$ADA price: $0.2218, up 1.83% in 24 hours

Market cap: $8.25 billion

24-hour volume: about $658.2 million, up 12.91%

Circulating supply: 36.69 billion $ADA

Max supply: 45 billion $ADA

The driver behind this ADA japan exchange listing move is a new listing on S.BLOX, an exchange backed by Sony, giving Japanese investors a regulated way to buy $ADA. On-chain activity and a broader market rally added extra lift, and this week's Cardano ADA News cycle has kept sentiment upbeat.

Cardano Upgrades 2026: Van Rossem, Plomin and Chang Hard Forks Done

Leios builds on completed upgrades already live on mainnet.

Van Rossem hard fork(July 18, 2026): moved the network to Protocol Version 11, the first hard fork ratified entirely through on-chain governance among DReps, stake pool operators, and the Constitutional Committee

Plomin hard fork (January 29, 2025): brought Protocol Version 10 and completed CIP-1694 governance's second phase

Chang hard fork (2024): introduced the first wave of on-chain governance tools

Van Rossem also improved Plutus smart contracts with broader built-in functions and lower-cost execution, plus VRF key checks for stake pools and groundwork for Dijkstra and Leios. This steady sequence is why Cardano ADA News keeps treating governance progress as a story on its own.

Cardano Roadmap 2026: What Comes Next for ADA

Beyond Leios, other pieces are falling into place. Hydra, a Layer-2 tool, targets use cases the base layer struggles with alone, like real-time trading and payments. Node upgrades, including an LSM Tree update that lowered recommended RAM requirements for stake pool operators, add efficiency too, with weekly notes tracked on the official forum.
Liquidity infrastructure is expanding, with stablecoin and cross-chain data providers active, and new funding vehicles now support builders working on the wallet tools and DeFi apps.
The Cradano roadmap 2026 and 2027 stacks upgrades in sequence: Leios for throughput, Peras for finality, Hydra for off-chain use. If Leios activates on schedule, it marks the biggest shift in the blockchain's history, and future Cardano ADA News coverage will track how much activity the network can absorb once it goes live.
