Ripple partnered with Jeonbuk Bank on Aug. 18 to deploy Ripple Payments for cross border business remittances, making Jeonbuk the first South Korean regional bank to adopt the service.

The companies said the integration would allow Jeonbuk Bank to settle international transfers in seconds or minutes rather than the days some conventional correspondent banking payments require. The service will operate continuously rather than only during local banking hours.

Ripple and Jeonbuk did not disclose the first payment corridors, supported currencies, transaction volumes, fees or full commercial launch schedule. They also did not identify XRP, RLUSD or a Korean won stablecoin as a settlement asset.

Ripple Payments targets Jeonbuk business customers

Jeonbuk plans to offer the service to businesses that regularly send or receive money internationally. Ripple identified importers, exporters, technology startups and online content creators as potential users.

Regional companies often depend on intermediary banks when their local bank lacks a direct relationship with the recipient’s institution. Each intermediary can add processing time, fees and reconciliation work.

Ripple Payments is designed to manage payment routing, foreign exchange and settlement through one institutional connection. Ripple says its broader payment network operates across more than 60 markets and has processed over $100 billion since launch.

Those network figures apply to Ripple Payments globally, not to Jeonbuk Bank. Neither company provided projected transaction volume or customer adoption figures for the South Korean partnership.

The announcement described settlement as “near real time” and said transfers could complete within seconds or minutes. Actual delivery times may depend on the destination market, payout provider, compliance checks and local banking infrastructure.

Ripple did not explain whether Jeonbuk customers can access the service immediately. The bank’s public product pages had not provided detailed pricing or eligible corridor information when checked.

Deal does not confirm XRP or stablecoin use

The partnership announcement does not say that Jeonbuk Bank will buy, hold or transfer XRP. Ripple Payments can support different combinations of fiat currency, stablecoins and digital assets depending on the corridor and regulatory requirements.

No onchain address or transaction record was disclosed. The deal therefore does not provide measurable evidence of new XRP demand or activity on the XRP Ledger.

Ripple also did not name RLUSD as a settlement asset. Any claim that the bank will use Ripple’s dollar stablecoin would require a later product announcement or transaction record.

Community commentator Vet suggested that a future Korean won stablecoin could support Ripple Payments through the XRP Ledger. He also pointed to Ripple’s work on permissioned trading infrastructure. Those statements describe a possible model, not a confirmed Jeonbuk product.

Ripple has separately worked with Bitso to connect the MXNB peso stablecoin and RLUSD to its developing payment infrastructure for the U.S. and Mexico corridor. That arrangement does not establish which assets Jeonbuk will use.

The claim that Jeonbuk will fully bypass SWIFT also goes beyond the announcement. Ripple presented its platform as an alternative to slow correspondent transfers, but it did not disclose every bank, payout provider or messaging rail involved in the new service.

Jeonbuk deal extends Ripple’s Korea bank strategy

Jeonbuk is part of JB Financial Group and serves customers from its base in North Jeolla Province. The new partnership extends Ripple’s South Korean strategy beyond large national financial institutions.

Ripple had already signed agreements with Kbank and Kyobo Life Insurance during 2026. Each partnership covers a different part of the company’s institutional infrastructure.

As previously reported, Kbank tested blockchain remittances to the United Arab Emirates and Thailand through a multiphase project. The test focused on wallet infrastructure and stablecoin settlement rather than confirmed XRP use.

Ripple later announced that Kbank would deploy wallet infrastructure through Ripple Custody. The product supports institutional management of digital assets across multiple blockchain networks.

Kyobo Life pursued a different use case. In related coverage, the insurer piloted near real time settlement of tokenized Korean government bonds using Ripple Custody.

That project remained a pilot and did not establish a commercial payment service. Jeonbuk’s agreement is more directly focused on cross border remittances for business customers.

Ripple Asia Pacific managing director Fiona Murray said the partnership reflected increased interest from Korean financial institutions. Her statement presented the Jeonbuk deployment as part of a broader institutional expansion.

Jeonbuk expects payments deal to support growth

Jeonbuk Bank President Park Choon-won said the partnership would help the bank move beyond its traditional regional role and compete as a digital finance provider.

“This partnership will become a new growth engine for the bank,” Park said.

The statement is forward looking. Jeonbuk has not disclosed revenue targets, customer numbers or expected payment volume associated with the service.

The bank will need to explain which customers qualify, what currencies they can send and receive, and how fees compare with existing remittance services. Regulatory and compliance checks will remain necessary even when the underlying settlement process operates continuously.

Near real time settlement also does not mean every payment will arrive instantly. International transfers can still face sanctions screening, customer verification, fraud controls and destination market restrictions.

No verified market reaction was tied specifically to the announcement. XRP’s price movement cannot be attributed to the partnership without evidence connecting trading activity to the news.
