Tether has announced two significant steps aimed at boosting institutional blockchain adoption in the Middle East, with a particular focus on Saudi Arabia. The company is expanding beyond its well-known stablecoin USDT to offer institutional blockchain infrastructure and real-world asset tokenization.

Saudi Partnership Unveils Institutional Real Estate Tokenization

Tether is collaborating with First Advanced Data for Artificial Intelligence LLC (First Data), a Saudi technology company, and BKN301, an international fintech platform. The agreement will enable Tether’s Hadron platform to provide end-to-end technology for issuing and managing tokenized real estate assets specifically for institutional clients in Saudi Arabia.

Under this venture, First Data will lead business operations, act as the issuer, and manage the primary market for these digital assets. BKN301 will be responsible for integrating banking systems, compliance, payments, and operational services into the tokenized ecosystem.

This initiative aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 framework, which targets economic diversification through the adoption of financial technologies and digital infrastructure. The parties involved intend to enhance property market liquidity and attract broader investment capital through the digitization of real estate ownership records on a blockchain.

With the use of blockchain technology, the initiative is expected to improve real estate liquidity in the region, while also providing new channels for both local and global investors to participate in Saudi property markets.

Tether stated that the framework could be expanded to include other real-world assets such as energy and infrastructure in the future, signaling a broader role for blockchain in the country’s asset management landscape.

Hadron, Tether’s tokenization platform launched in late 2024, is designed to enable regulated institutions to tokenize diverse asset classes, streamlining the issuance, administration, and regulatory processes on a blockchain.

XAU₮ Gains Shariah Certification for Islamic Finance Growth

In a parallel development, Tether’s gold-backed digital asset XAU₮ has been awarded a Shariah compliance certificate by Amanah Advisors, an Islamic finance consultancy led by Mufti Faraz Adam. This certification confirms that XAU₮ meets the ethical and legal standards required by Islamic finance, as each token represents ownership of physical gold stored in Switzerland.

The Shariah-compliant status is expected to facilitate greater adoption of XAU₮ among Islamic banks, halal investment providers, takaful insurance, and institutional investors in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region, South Asia, and Africa. Tether claims this recognition helps demonstrate that digital assets and blockchain-based products can meet strict transparency and regulatory standards in diverse markets.

Blockchain-based tokens that comply with Islamic finance laws could open new investment opportunities for institutions seeking Shariah-compliant assets.

Tether has articulated a broad vision to transform into a full-service tokenization company, moving beyond its legacy as a stablecoin issuer. The latest partnerships and certifications mark efforts to secure a larger role in both traditional and emerging digital asset markets across the Middle East.

Full implementation timelines and details about the first projects under these initiatives have not yet been disclosed. Stakeholders are watching for the launch of initial real estate tokenization pilots and any regulatory moves in Saudi Arabia, as well as the uptake of XAU₮ within Islamic financial institutions.
