The European Blockchain Convention (EBC) is set to return to Barcelona from October 15-17, 2025, marking the first major industry gathering since the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) came into full effect. The event, now in its 10th edition, is expected to draw thousands of policymakers, developers, and institutional investors to discuss the future of digital assets under the new regulatory framework.

Why This Edition Matters

This year’s convention carries particular weight as it is the first large-scale crypto event in Europe following the full implementation of MiCA, which began applying to crypto-asset service providers in December 2024. The regulation establishes a unified licensing regime across the 27-member bloc, replacing fragmented national rules. Organizers say the event will focus on how businesses are adapting to the new compliance requirements and what opportunities the regulatory clarity creates for innovation.

Victoria Gago, co-founder of EBC, said in a statement that the convention aims to bridge the gap between regulators and the industry. “We are entering a new era where regulatory compliance is not a burden but a competitive advantage,” she said. The event will feature dedicated tracks on MiCA implementation, stablecoin adoption, and institutional custody, reflecting the shifting priorities of the European crypto ecosystem.

Key Themes and Speakers

The agenda includes over 200 speakers, with a mix of European regulators, blockchain entrepreneurs, and traditional finance executives. Notable sessions cover the practical challenges of obtaining a MiCA license, the role of stablecoins in cross-border payments, and the integration of blockchain in traditional financial infrastructure. The convention also hosts a startup competition, with more than 100 projects vying for attention from venture capital funds.

In addition to the main stage, the event will feature a dedicated exhibition floor where companies showcase solutions for compliance, security, and decentralized finance. The organizers expect over 7,000 attendees, a significant increase from previous years, reflecting growing institutional interest in the region.

Impact on the European Crypto Landscape

The timing of the event is critical. As of mid-2025, several major exchanges and wallet providers have already secured MiCA licenses, while others are still in the process. The convention offers a platform for these entities to share best practices and for newcomers to understand the regulatory landscape. For investors, the event signals a maturation of the European market, with clearer rules potentially attracting more traditional capital.

However, challenges remain. The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) has warned about the risks of market fragmentation and the need for consistent supervision across member states. The convention’s panels will likely address these concerns, providing a forum for regulators to clarify expectations and for industry to voice operational hurdles.

Conclusion

The European Blockchain Convention in Barcelona is more than a networking event; it is a barometer for the health of Europe’s crypto industry under MiCA. With regulatory clarity now in place, the focus shifts to execution and innovation. As the event unfolds, it will offer valuable insights into how the region is positioning itself as a global hub for digital assets.
