XRP is the native digital asset of the XRP Ledger (XRPL), a blockchain built by Ripple for fast, low-cost cross-border payments. Millions of accounts now hold XRP, and where you store it matters just as much as how much you hold.

What Is an XRP Wallet, and How Does It Work?

An XRP wallet is software or hardware that holds the private keys controlling your XRPL account, rather than storing the coins themselves — your XRP always lives on the ledger. A non-custodial vault gives you sole control of those keys, unlike an exchange account where the platform holds them for you. Setting one up is usually simple: download or unbox the wallet, generate a new XRPL account, back up the recovery phrase somewhere offline, then send XRP to your new address from an exchange. Every XRPL account also needs a small base reserve, currently 1 XRP, locked to keep the account active on the network.
With that groundwork covered, here's a look at five of the most established options for XRP storage in 2026.

1. Xaman

Xaman, formerly known as XUMM, is a non-custodial mobile vault built specifically for the XRP Ledger by XRPL Labs. It launched in 2021 and rebranded in 2023, but its purpose hasn't changed giving XRPL users one secure app to manage assets without a centralized exchange. It suits people who do more than just hold XRP, including traders swapping XRPL tokens, NFT collectors, and dApp users.
The app is free to download, with an optional paid tier, and since it runs through a phone connected to the internet, it sits in the "hot vault" category rather than offline cold storage.
Features: Xaman handles ripple , XRPL-issued tokens, and ripple NFTs in one app, with direct access to DEX trading, trust lines, and XRPL-native dApps through its xApp system. It also offers one-tap swaps and optional hardware-based signing through Xaman Cards.
Risks: Because Xaman is a hot wallet connected to the internet, it's better suited to moderate, active holdings than to storing very large amounts long-term. Some users have also reported confusion around in-app tipping fees, so it's worth reviewing any fee prompts carefully before confirming.

2. Ledger

Ledger Wallet is one of the best-known hardware vault brands in crypto, built around offline, physical key storage. Its 2026 lineup includes the Nano S Plus, Nano X, Nano Gen5, and touchscreen Flex and Stax models, all supporting ripple natively through the Ledger Live app. A Ledger device keeps private keys inside a secure element chip that never connects directly to the internet, and every transaction needs physical approval on the device itself. Ledger Live also manages thousands of other coins, so the same device can cover a broader portfolio beyond XRP.
Features: As a cold wallet, Ledger stores private keys offline inside a secure element chip, requiring physical confirmation on the device for every transaction. Ledger Live handles ripple sending, receiving, and destination tags without extra plugins, alongside support for thousands of other coins.
Risks:Hardware wallets add a learning curve for beginners, and losing your recovery phrase means losing access permanently, since Ledger itself can't restore it for you. Devices with Bluetooth also introduce a small extra attack surface compared to USB-only models.

3. Trust Wallet

Trust Wallet is a mobile-first, non-custodial software wallet supporting well over 100 blockchains, including the XRP Ledger. It started out focused on Ethereum-based tokens but has since grown into a broad multi-asset wallet for users holding a mix of coins. The app is free on iOS and Android, needs no hardware purchase to start, and is backed by Binance, which makes buying and swapping crypto simple inside the app. Since keys stay on your device rather than an offline unit, it falls into the hot wallet category alongside Xaman and Exodus.
Features: Beyond basic storage, Trust Wallet includes a built-in DApp browser, staking options for supported assets, and NFT management, making it a practical all-in-one option for users active across multiple chains.
Risks: As a hot vault, Trust Wallet's security depends heavily on your phone's own safety a compromised device or a phishing dApp connection can put funds at risk. It's better suited to everyday amounts than to large, long-term holdings.

4. Exodus

Exodus is a non-custodial software vault on desktop and mobile, built around a clean, simple interface aimed at newcomers moving off centralized exchanges. Since 2015 it has grown to several million users on the strength of that beginner-friendly design rather than the widest coin coverage.
In April 2026, Exodus expanded native ripple Ledger support and added in-wallet Ripple USD (RLUSD) integration in partnership with Ripple. It supports a curated few hundred assets rather than thousands, and as an internet-connected vault, it's best paired with a hardware wallet once holdings grow.
Features: Exodus combines a clean portfolio view with a built-in exchange for swapping between assets directly in the app, plus staking rewards on select coins. Its design leans toward simplicity, making it a common recommendation for beginners moving off centralized exchanges.
Risks: Exodus is closed-source, meaning its full code isn't open for public review the way some competitors' code is. For holdings above a few thousand dollars, pairing Exodus with a hardware vault is generally the safer approach.

5. Trezor

Trezor is one of the original hardware vault brands, having helped popularize offline crypto storage over the past decade. Its current lineup: Safe 3, Safe 5, and Safe 7 all support natively through Trezor Suite, replacing older models like the Model One that lack support.
Each Safe-series device uses an EAL6+ certified secure element chip, the same class used in banking cards, and the firmware is fully open-source for independent review. That transparency, paired with physical transaction verification, is why long-term holders often choose Trezor or Ledger over software options.
Features:Trezor devices use an EAL6+ secure element chip, open-source firmware, and on-device transaction verification, with the Safe 5 adding a color touchscreen for easier address checks. Advanced backup options like Shamir's SLIP39 are also available for splitting your recovery phrase across multiple shares.
Risks: Older Trezor models, like the original Model One, don't support ripple at all, so buying the correct current model matters. As with any hardware vault, safe storage of your recovery seed is entirely your own responsibility.

How to Choose the Right XRP Wallet for You

For beginners just moving ripple off an exchange for the first time, a software vault like Exodus or Xaman offers a gentler learning curve. For anyone holding XRP as a long-term store of value, a hardware wallet like Ledger or Trezor provides meaningfully stronger protection, since private keys never touch an internet-connected device. Many experienced holders end up using both: a software wallet like Xaman for day-to-day XRPL activity, paired with a Ledger or Trezor for the bulk of their holdings kept in cold storage.

Final Word

There's no single best XRP wallet for every situation the right pick depends on how much XRP you hold, how often you transact, and how much you're willing to manage yourself. Xaman, Trust Wallet, and Exodus suit day-to-day flexibility, while Ledger and Trezor remain the stronger choice for anyone prioritizing long-term security over convenience. Whichever you choose, always download wallets from official sources and store your recovery phrase offline.
