Arbitrum

The self-custodial trading platform Sedona is shaking up its tech stack. And it is moving to Arbitrum to do it. On Thursday, July 16, the company announced a major partnership with blockchain privacy provider Fhenix. The goal is simple. Sedona wants to replace its hardware-based privacy protections with pure cryptographic confidentiality. To pull this off, Sedona will deploy Fhenix's Confidential FHE (or CoFHE) infrastructure once its migration away from the Seismic ecosystem to Arbitrum is complete.

What does this actually mean for users? Total privacy by default.

The new setup will encrypt user balances, portfolio positions, and the spending limits of automated AI agents. Because of how fully homomorphic encryption works, the network can perform complex computations directly on that encrypted data. Nothing gets exposed.

Until now, Sedona has relied on Trusted Execution Environments to keep user data under wraps. But TEEs come with a catch. They require you to trust a physical piece of hardware. FHE changes the game entirely by relying on advanced cryptography so data remains hidden throughout the entire computation process. It relies on math, not hardware.

Tyler Maxwell, the founder of Sedona, laid out the reasoning behind the switch. He noted that the company originally started with TEEs because they were the most practical way to deliver privacy at the time. "But our goal has always been to remove trust assumptions wherever possible," Maxwell said. He added that FHE provides a much stronger foundation for self-custodial financial apps.

This integration highlights a growing trend in the crypto space. Decentralized applications are now doing a lot more than just sending tokens back and forth. They are handling complex trades, lending markets, and AI-assisted financial automation. By extending encryption specifically to AI agents, Sedona ensures these bots can execute user commands without leaking sensitive financial details to the public ledger.

Right now, the Ethereum ecosystem is locked in a fierce competition over privacy tech. Developers are constantly debating the merits of various solutions (including zero-knowledge proofs, TEEs, and FHE) to fix the glaring confidentiality problems in decentralized finance. With this partnership, Fhenix is clearly positioning its FHE tech as the go-to alternative for smart contract execution across networks like Ethereum, Arbitrum, and Base.

Conclusion

This is a massive step forward for Sedona. However, the work is not finished yet. The technical integration is still underway, and neither company has shared a strict launch timeline or the financial details of their agreement. Even so, the broader message to the industry is clear. If developers want to bring sophisticated, institutional-grade finance on-chain, ironclad user privacy is no longer optional.
