The consensus forecast was for respective increases of 0.2% and 2.9%, following a 2.9% May level.</cite> The core reading signals a marked deceleration in underlying price pressures.<cite>Services costs, which are closely watched by Federal Reserve policymakers for longer-run inflation trends, moderated significantly. Services excluding energy costs were flat, with shelter rising just 0.1% and transportation services posting a 0.3% decline.</cite><cite>Stock market futures were mostly positive following the report while Treasury yields were sharply lower.
