On July 2, Securitize became the first newly listed US public company to tokenize its own shares on the same day they began trading on the NYSE. After completing its SPAC merger with Cantor Equity Partners II at a $1.25 billion valuation, the BlackRock-backed tokenization firm put $295 million worth of its SECZ common stock on Solana and Avalanche, according to blockchain data tracked by RWA.xyz. Carlos Domingo, Securitize’s co-founder and CEO, drew the line that separates this from earlier experiments: “SECZ is not a synthetic token or offshore wrapper. It is <a href="https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/tokenizing-secz-securitize-brings-its-own-public-stock-onchain-at-listing-day-302816978.html" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">issuer-sponsored tokenization of the same common stock trading on the NYSE</a>.”The regulatory context explains why he leaned on that phrasing. The <a href="https://www.sec.gov/newsroom/speeches-statements/corp-fin-statement-tokenized-securities-012826-statement-tokenized-securities" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">SEC’s January 2026 staff statement on tokenized securities</a> distinguished between issuer-sponsored tokenization, where a company puts blockchain records into its official shareholder register, and third-party wrappers that merely track a price. Securitize’s debut was the first production test of that framework by a US-listed company, and it happened on Solana.<h2 id="strong-a-95-share-of-a-market-that-barely-existed-18-months-ago-strong">A 95% Share of a Market That Barely Existed 18 Months Ago</h2>Solana processed $5.77 billion in tokenized asset spot volume during Q2 2026, a quarterly record across all chains and more than seven times the $775 million recorded in the entire second half of 2025. During the week of June 15 to 21, the network handled $1.298 billion of the $1.324 billion in global tokenized stock volume, a 95% share. On June 24, daily tokenized equities trading hit $644 million and briefly overtook memecoins as a share of Solana’s spot volume for the first time in the network’s history.The wider real-world asset picture has moved with it. RWA value on Solana climbed from roughly $1.4 billion in January to above $3.4 billion by early July, <a href="https://app.rwa.xyz/networks/solana" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">per RWA.xyz</a>, with more than 290,000 wallets holding tokenized assets across some 690 distinct products. In June, Securitize expanded its Tokenized AAA CLO Fund, built with BNY as custodian and sub-adviser, to Solana, and Ethena Labs <a href="https://www.stocktitan.net/sec-filings/CEPT/425-cantor-equity-partners-ii-inc-business-combination-communication-8b196e022998.html" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">committed a planned $250 million allocation</a>, one of the largest single commitments to tokenized structured credit on any chain. Global CLO issuance exceeds $1.3 trillion, so the addressable market dwarfs everything currently on-chain even if only a fraction ever migrates.Payments companies with a century or more of history have started routing money through the same rails. Western Union <a href="https://ir.westernunion.com/news/archived-press-releases/press-release-details/2026/Western-Union-Launches-USDPT-on-Solana-Advancing-Regulated-Digital-Infrastructure-for-Global-Payments/default.aspx" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">launched its USDPT stablecoin on Solana in May</a>, issued by the federally chartered Anchorage Digital Bank and plugged into a settlement network covering more than 200 countries, with a consumer product planned for over 40 markets later this year. Worldpay lets merchants <a href="https://www.worldpay.com/en/insights/articles/worldpay-solana-stablecoin-partnership" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">settle transactions in USDG</a>, the Paxos-issued Global Dollar, on Solana. Mastercard has <a href="https://www.mastercard.com/us/en/news-and-trends/press/2026/june/mastercard-expands-settlement-capabilities-to-include-stablecoin.html" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">brought stablecoin settlement on the network to its card business</a>. And on the banking infrastructure side, R3, whose Corda platform secures more than $10 billion in tokenized regulated assets for institutions including HSBC and Euroclear, is building an integration that will let private Corda transactions <a href="https://r3.com/r3-signals-strategic-shift-to-lead-the-convergence-of-public-and-private-blockchains-to-deliver-internet-capital-markets-through-collaboration-with-solana-foundation/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">confirm directly on Solana mainnet</a> and settle against Solana-based stablecoins, removing Corda’s internal notary nodes from the process entirely.<h2 id="strong-the-78-problem-strong">The $78 Problem</h2>While the infrastructure metrics print all-time highs, SOL itself trades near $78, down roughly 74% from its January 2025 peak of about $294, with a market capitalization around $45 billion. Whatever the institutions have been buying over the past eighteen months, it has not been the token, and that gap between network usage and asset price is now the central dispute among people watching the ecosystem.The skeptical reading goes like this. Much of the tokenized equity flow runs through products like xStocks with meaningful custody and issuer dependencies, most offerings still exclude US retail investors, and a $539 million tokenized stock market cap remains a rounding error against traditional equity markets. Concentration adds another layer of doubt, because if a large share of the $3 billion-plus in RWA value sits with a handful of issuers, the headline number overstates the ecosystem’s resilience. The network’s history of outages, largely resolved since early 2024 but not forgotten, still surfaces in every institutional due diligence conversation.The counterargument rests on growth rates instead of absolute size. Bitwise CIO Matt Hougan has publicly framed Solana as the primary beneficiary if the CLARITY Act passes Congress and accelerates corporate tokenization, and the Q2 volume explosion happened before any such legislation existed. On the engineering side, the Alpenglow consensus upgrade targets sub-150 millisecond finality, while the Firedancer validator client has demonstrated one million transactions per second in testing, specifications aimed squarely at exchange operators.Ducoff’s framing of the endgame is characteristically ambitious. More people now hold crypto wallets than brokerage accounts, he argues, and his stated goal is connecting billions of internet users to every tradable asset in a single liquidity venue.
