Upbit has published a GAS airdrop payment notice covering the first week of July, alerting users on the South Korean exchange to an upcoming distribution of GAS tokens tied to NEO holdings.

What Upbit Announced About the GAS Airdrop

The notice, posted on Upbit's official notice center, confirms a scheduled GAS airdrop payment. GAS is the utility token of the Neo blockchain, generated automatically by holding NEO tokens. Exchanges that support NEO often distribute GAS to eligible users on a periodic basis. For related coverage, see Naver Financial to Acquire Upbit Operator Dunamu for $10.3B.
Upbit frames the update as a platform notice rather than a promotional event. The exchange has a track record of publishing airdrop and distribution notices for assets it supports, and this GAS payment follows the same operational pattern.
Upbit, South Korea's largest cryptocurrency exchange by trading volume, has been active in listing and supporting various digital assets. The exchange recently added Citrea (CTR) trading on BTC and USDT markets, and also listed MegaETH (MEGA) on KRW, BTC, and USDT markets.

Why the First Week of July Timing Matters

The notice specifies the first week of July as the relevant payment window. GAS distributions on exchanges typically follow a snapshot model, where user balances at a specific point in time determine allocation amounts.
Users holding NEO on Upbit during the qualifying period should monitor their account balances for incoming GAS payments during this window. The exact snapshot date, distribution date, and any minimum holding requirements are details that users need to confirm directly through the posted notice on Upbit.
Because this is a time-sensitive announcement, users who miss the distribution window or fail to meet eligibility criteria may not receive the airdrop payment for this cycle.

Key Details Users Should Verify in the Notice

The research brief does not provide the specific operational details of the notice, so readers should check the following items directly on Upbit's platform:

Eligibility criteria: Whether a minimum NEO holding amount is required, and whether the tokens must be held in a spot wallet rather than locked in orders.

Snapshot timing: The exact date and time used to calculate each user's GAS allocation.

Distribution schedule: When the GAS tokens will appear in user accounts after the snapshot.

Any exclusions: Whether sub-accounts, corporate accounts, or accounts in certain jurisdictions are excluded from the distribution.

Users should review the full notice text on Upbit's notice center rather than relying on third-party summaries, as exchange-specific terms and conditions apply.

What This Means for Upbit Users Holding GAS

The notice is most directly relevant to Upbit users who hold NEO and expect to receive GAS as a staking-like reward. Users on other exchanges or those holding NEO in private wallets are not affected by this particular notice, as each platform handles GAS distribution independently.
Upbit users should also keep an eye on the exchange's broader notice board for any follow-up announcements, corrections, or schedule changes related to this distribution. Upbit has previously experienced operational disruptions, including a halt on transfers following a Solana hot wallet breach, which underscores the importance of staying current with official platform communications.
For users who do not currently hold NEO on Upbit, this notice does not create any new action items. The GAS airdrop is a routine distribution mechanism tied to NEO's dual-token model, not a promotional campaign or limited-time offer.
