Ripple relocked 700 million XRP from its July 2025 escrow unlock, releasing only 300 million XRP into potential circulation. The move follows the company's long-standing pattern of returning the majority of each monthly escrow tranche to locked status.

July Escrow Move Leaves 300 Million XRP in Circulation

Ripple's escrow system unlocks approximately 1 billion XRP on the first day of each month. The July release followed the same structure, with the full tranche briefly leaving escrow before Ripple relocked 70% of it, or 700 million XRP. For related coverage, see Taiwan Crypto Law Sets Rules for Exchanges, Stablecoins.

The remaining 300 million XRP was not relocked, making it available for Ripple to use for operational purposes, institutional sales, or ecosystem development. This split is consistent with how Ripple has handled prior monthly escrow releases, where the bulk of each unlock is returned to escrow for future months.

The escrow mechanism was established on the XRP Ledger to create predictable, programmatic release schedules for XRP held by Ripple. Each monthly unlock does not represent immediate selling pressure, since Ripple typically relocks the majority before any tokens reach the open market.

Why Ripple Relocks Most of Each Monthly XRP Release

The distinction between unlocked and released XRP is critical for understanding the actual supply impact. When 1 billion XRP leaves escrow, only the portion Ripple chooses not to relock enters potential circulation. In July's case, that net figure was 300 million XRP.

Relocked tokens are placed back into escrow contracts with new future unlock dates, effectively deferring their release. This means the 700 million XRP relocked in July will re-enter the unlock queue at a later date, spreading supply distribution over a longer timeline.

Ripple has used this approach since the escrow system launched, and the relock ratio has varied month to month. The company's broader ambitions, including its push into the tokenization market, provide context for why it maintains a controlled release strategy rather than flooding the market with the full monthly tranche.

For traders unfamiliar with token unlock mechanics, similar supply-side events affect other major crypto assets. Large-cap token holdings by institutional players and stablecoin supply expansions like Circle's recent USDC mints also shape circulating supply dynamics across the broader market.

What Traders Should Watch After the July XRP Unlock

Confirmed market reaction data for the July unlock was not available at the time of writing. XRP market data should be monitored for any delayed price response as the released tokens potentially enter circulation over the coming days and weeks.

The key signals to watch are on-chain wallet movements from Ripple's known addresses, exchange inflow volumes for XRP, and any over-the-counter sale disclosures. Large transfers from Ripple wallets to exchange hot wallets would indicate near-term selling intent, while transfers to institutional or partner wallets suggest operational deployment.

The next escrow unlock is scheduled for August 1, when another 1 billion XRP will leave escrow. Traders tracking XRP supply mechanics should note the relock ratio each month, since shifts in the percentage Ripple retains versus releases can signal changes in the company's liquidity needs or market strategy.
