Hsiao Wei Wang, one of the foundation’s co-executive directors, announced her immediate resignation through a post on X (formerly Twitter). Wang stated that after taking some personal leave, she reassessed her priorities and future plans, which led to her decision to step down.

Wang revealed that her decision came after stepping away from her duties for a period of time. In her message, she explained that the timing felt right for her to step back and focus on her future path.

Wang explained that after taking a break, she reflected on what she wants to focus on next and decided that this was the right time for her to take a step back.

This latest move follows the previously announced departure of Tomasz Stanczak, the foundation’s other co-executive director. Stanczak had earlier shared that he would step down after contributing to the leadership transition at the Switzerland-based nonprofit. As a key institution supporting the development of the Ethereum ecosystem, Ethereum Foundation’s top-level changes continue to draw close attention.

During Wang’s period of absence, board member Bastian Aue provided oversight to the leadership transition process. Following the resignation of both co-executive directors, Aue has reportedly taken on a broader and more influential role in guiding the organization.

Wang’s departure marks the latest in a series of notable leadership changes within Ethereum Foundation in recent months. At least eight senior figures have left the organization over the past five months. These departures have led to heightened scrutiny within the community regarding the foundation’s priorities, management structure and strategic direction.

Debate around these changes comes as competition among different blockchains intensifies. Reporting also indicates that attention on the foundation extends beyond personnel shifts, touching on themes of leadership, governance and long-term vision.

In her statement, Wang not only elaborated on her personal decision but also highlighted Ethereum’s broad mission. She acknowledged the major contributors to the network as it stands today, emphasizing that Ethereum is larger than any single role, organization or historical period.

Wang underscored that Ethereum cannot be defined by one position, one entity or a particular moment; instead, the network’s progress has always resulted from the collective effort of many contributors.
