Bybit has announced the introduction of options trading for Tether Gold (XAUT) on its cryptocurrency exchange platform, aimed at providing new strategic opportunities for investors interested in gold-backed tokens. Settling in USDT, the rollout offers participants the ability to hedge against fluctuations in gold prices and deploy volatility-driven strategies.

How Are XAUT Options Structured?

These new offerings utilize Bybit’s RFQ system for structuring option trades. Each contract is equivalent to one troy ounce of physical gold, comprising European-style options that necessitate execution only at their expiry. RFQ enables personalized price quotes, making it particularly effective for large-scale transactions.

Options provide financial leverage by offering the right, but not obligation, to transact in the underlying asset at a set price by a specific date. The range of strategies spans from hedging risks to leveraging volatility trends, with call and put options catering to different market anticipations.

Orbit Markets’ expertise lies in providing options trading solutions backed by a team of seasoned professionals from the world of precious metals trading.

Yang highlighted rising interest within the crypto sector for traditional derivative instruments. Orbit Markets positions itself as a reliable market maker, offering institutional-grade liquidity and pricing, thereby meeting evolving trading demands.

What’s the Market Context for Gold Options?

The international market for gold options currently boasts multi-billion dollar trading volumes, with key exchanges such as CME and MCX involved, alongside extensive over-the-counter activity. Bybit’s step into this realm marks a notable attempt to present this asset class on a more prominent cryptocurrency exchange.

XAUT options have been accessible via smaller platforms since November 2024. Bybit distinguishes itself through its scale and provision of institutional liquidity, specifically aimed at servicing a broader crypto audience.

Investors can use XAUT options to mitigate gold price volatility, strategize on market directions, or implement volatility-based strategies.

Bybit’s initiative to include XAUT options signals its dedication to expanding advanced financial products on its platform, offering a blend of traditional asset exposure with digital currency innovations.
