This TON news isn't just cosmetic. Gram was the original token name used in first white paper, the founding document that laid out the entire vision before Telegram's legal battles with the SEC forced the project to pause and restructure under community leadership.
The SEC case was eventually settled, with Telegram agreeing to return $1.2 billion to investors and pay an $18.5 million civil penalty. The community then rebuilt independently under the Foundation, using the Toncoin identity to distance itself from the legal history.
Now, with that chapter closed, the rename is step four of the Make the project Great Again (MTONGA) roadmap, and the blockchain is reclaiming its original identity.

Telegram's Growing Role

This Toncoin news also signals a deeper shift. The proposal states that Telegram is becoming the primary driving force behind the change and is now the network's largest validator. The rebrand reflects that alignment, connecting the token's name back to Telegram's original vision from 2018.

What This Means for Investors?

At the time of writing, the TON was trading around $1.70, down approximately 3% in 24 hours. The rebrand announcement has not generated sustained buying pressure. History suggests name changes alone rarely drive lasting rallies.
This TONcoin news matters more as a signal than a catalyst — it shows a project cleaning up its identity, strengthening governance, and aligning with Telegram's infrastructure roadmap. Watch how GRAM/USDT performs post-June 15 for real market sentiment.
