OKX has announced plans to launch perpetual futures contracts for PANW (Palo Alto Networks) and IREN (Iris Energy) stock, expanding the exchange's derivatives offering into equity-linked products.

The announcement, published on OKX's official help center, confirms the exchange will list perpetual futures tied to two publicly traded companies: cybersecurity firm Palo Alto Networks and Bitcoin mining infrastructure company Iris Energy.

What Stock Perpetual Contracts Offer That Spot Shares Do Not

Perpetual contracts are a derivatives instrument common in crypto markets that allow traders to take long or short positions on an asset without an expiration date. Unlike traditional futures, perpetuals use a funding rate mechanism to keep the contract price aligned with the underlying asset.

Stock perpetual contracts apply this same structure to equities. Traders gain price exposure to PANW and IREN shares without directly owning the stock, which removes the need for a brokerage account or access to U.S. equity markets.

This distinction matters for international users who may face restrictions on purchasing U.S.-listed securities. The contract structure also allows leveraged exposure, though OKX has not disclosed specific margin or leverage parameters for these listings in its initial announcement.

OKX Broadens Its Equity-Linked Derivatives Lineup

The addition of PANW and IREN perpetuals signals continued expansion of OKX's stock-linked product suite. By selecting two tickers from different sectors, cybersecurity and Bitcoin mining infrastructure, the exchange is diversifying its equity derivatives beyond a single industry vertical.

IREN is a particularly notable choice given its direct ties to cryptocurrency mining operations. Listing a perpetual contract on a mining stock within a crypto exchange creates a loop where traders can hedge or speculate on mining economics without leaving the platform.

The move follows a broader industry pattern. Exchanges like Binance have also expanded their perpetual futures offerings in recent months, reflecting growing demand for derivatives products that bridge traditional equities and crypto infrastructure.

The growing intersection between gaming, blockchain ecosystems, and financial products is visible across the industry. Initiatives like MapleStory Universe's expansion into Web3 illustrate how digital asset platforms are broadening their reach beyond pure trading into adjacent sectors.
