Pavel Durov confirmed that TON’s native currency will now carry the name Gram. He explained that Gram appeared in the original white paper during early development stages. That detail gave the announcement a strong symbolic meaning for long-time followers of the project. Durov described the change as a return to foundational ideas behind the network. The blockchain will still operate under the TON name, while the token identity shifts to Gram.

The transition timeline is expected to take around three weeks, allowing ecosystem platforms and exchanges to adjust. The announcement also reconnects TON with a controversial chapter in crypto history. Telegram initially planned to launch Gram before facing regulatory action from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in 2020. That case forced the company to step back from direct involvement.Afterward, the project evolved independently under the TON label.

Developers continued building the ecosystem, gradually expanding infrastructure and user adoption. The latest rebrand now ties the present network back to its early ambition. Durov also framed the change as part of a broader roadmap titled “Make TON Great Again.” The message suggests additional updates may follow beyond branding adjustments. Market participants now view the shift as part of a larger strategic direction rather than a simple rename.

Market reaction arrived quickly after the announcement went public. TON climbed more than 15% during the session and moved above $2.18. The sharp rally followed several weeks of consolidation across the token’s price chart. Traders appeared to interpret the rebrand as a signal of renewed engagement from Telegram-linked leadership. That perception fueled stronger buying activity across spot markets.

Volume increased as momentum traders entered positions during early price acceleration. The timing also mattered. TON had recently recovered from broader market fluctuations in May. The new announcement added fresh narrative support, which often drives short-term price action in crypto markets. Beyond price movement, sentiment across social platforms turned more optimistic.

Many participants highlighted the historical significance of the Gram name. Others focused on potential long-term alignment between Telegram’s ecosystem and TON’s development path. The rebrand may also improve clarity between blockchain identity and token branding. That separation could help simplify communication across exchanges and users.
