Pavel Durov, the visionary behind Telegram, revealed through his official Telegram channel that Toncoin, the primary digital asset powering the TON blockchain ecosystem, will undergo a transformation back to GRAM. This designation was featured in the network’s inaugural whitepaper before regulatory complications with American authorities forced changes.

“We’re returning to our roots — and starting a new chapter,” Durov declared in his announcement. He specified that the complete transformation process would require approximately three weeks to finalize.

The underlying blockchain infrastructure will maintain the TON designation. The modification exclusively affects the token itself.

TON experienced an impressive surge exceeding 11% following this revelation, based on TradingView analytics. At publication time, the digital asset was changing hands near $2.10. Additionally, the token has climbed roughly 19% across the previous seven days and approximately 60% throughout the preceding month.

Multi-Phase Strategic Roadmap

This nomenclature shift isn’t an isolated development. Durov positioned it as the fourth phase within a comprehensive seven-stage strategy he’s branded “TON Great Again.”

The inaugural phase involved a substantial infrastructure enhancement that accelerated TON’s performance tenfold, with block generation rates multiplying sixfold. In subsequent developments, Durov disclosed that network transaction costs had plummeted to practically negligible levels.

He further revealed that Telegram would supplant the TON Foundation as the primary organizational force steering the blockchain’s evolution, with Telegram assuming the position of the network’s most significant validator. This structural shift was assigned a two-to-three week implementation schedule upon its announcement the previous month.

Regulatory Background

The GRAM designation holds considerable historical significance. Durov initially created the TON infrastructure before regulatory intervention compelled him to retreat following litigation initiated by the United States Securities and Exchange Commission. The SEC has subsequently withdrawn that legal action.

With a more cryptocurrency-supportive governmental framework now established in the United States, Telegram has been progressively expanding its involvement and influence within the TON ecosystem.

TON maintained its upward momentum on the rebrand announcement day, even while the wider cryptocurrency marketplace experienced losses. Bitcoin dropped beneath the $71,000 threshold during that same trading session.

The token’s approximate 60% appreciation throughout the past month signals an evolving market perspective regarding the TON ecosystem in recent weeks.
