Tangem, the firm behind a contactless card-style hardware wallet, is combining a promotional push with a software update that brings new wallet import and spending-control features. The company is offering a limited-time deal — buy one Tangem wallet set and get a second at half price — alongside bonus bitcoin and an additional checkout discount. Separately, Tangem App version 5.38 adds a seed-phrase import flow, automatic token detection, Tangem Pay controls and new language support.

What the promotional offer includes

The promotion bundles a discounted second device, a small bitcoin credit and an extra percentage off at checkout. Specifically, customers who purchase one Tangem wallet set can add a second set at 50% off. Each set reportedly includes $10 in BTC, and an additional 20% discount is applied during checkout. Tangem has framed the offer as a way for buyers to set up a second card for a friend or family member. The deal is time-limited, expiring on June 5.

While the incentives are designed to accelerate hardware-wallet adoption, buyers should check regional availability, shipping and any terms that apply to bundled crypto credits. Tangem’s communications also note that Tangem AG does not act as a custodian or regulated exchange, and that crypto transaction services are provided by third parties. The company has stated that Tangem Pay is delivered by Paera LLC for eligible users.

Key features in Tangem App 5.38

The new app release focuses on onboarding and on-device spending controls. The headline changes include:

Seed-phrase import and token scanning – Users can import an existing seed phrase into the Tangem App. The app will then scan the imported wallet and add tokens that are already held in that account. This feature shortens setup for users migrating from other wallets, but it also introduces a broader attack surface because seed phrases are being handled by an app rather than remaining solely on a hardware device.

Tangem Pay controls – The update adds management options for card-based payments, including the ability to rename cards, reissue them and set daily spending limits. These controls give users more granular guardrails for on-card spending, which can be useful for everyday use-cases where a balance is kept on a card for small transactions.

Localization – The app adds Simplified Chinese and Brazilian Portuguese language support, a move that could help Tangem penetrate those user bases and improve accessibility for non-English speakers.

Industry context and security trade-offs

The combined push of marketing incentives and app improvements reflects broader trends in the hardware-wallet sector: vendors are working to reduce friction for new users while expanding geographic reach. Tangem’s card design, which stores keys in a secure element inside a contactless card, targets consumers who want a physical key without the form factor of a dongle or a metal seed backup alone.

However, the new seed-phrase import option highlights a perennial tension in crypto security: convenience versus risk. Importing a seed phrase into a mobile app can be practical for consolidating assets, but it means that the private keys or recovery material will, at least temporarily, be processed on a general-purpose device that may be connected to the internet. Security-conscious users typically prefer air-gapped procedures or keeping private keys strictly on hardware secure elements to limit exposure to malware or network-based threats.

For organizations and individuals prioritizing institutional-grade custody or strict self-custody practices, hardware wallets from various vendors remain a preferred option, but differences in form factor, ecosystem integrations and user experience will influence adoption. Tangem’s updated app and promotional pricing may make card-based hardware wallets more attractive to retail users who previously relied on exchanges for custody.

What users should consider

Prospective buyers should evaluate several factors before responding to the promotion. Confirm the expiration date and regional terms of the sale, verify shipping timelines and be clear on how the $10 BTC incentive is delivered and redeemable. On the software side, assess whether you are comfortable importing a seed phrase into a mobile app or if you prefer to keep keys strictly on hardware.

Finally, remember that Tangem positions itself as a provider of hardware and non-custodial software, not a regulated financial services provider. Users should perform their own due diligence and understand how third-party transaction services used by the app operate in their jurisdiction.

With its latest app release and a time-limited promotional push, Tangem is aiming to make non-custodial storage more accessible. The changes are likely to accelerate onboarding among retail users, but they also underline the importance of deliberate security trade-offs when migrating keys between devices.
