<p>Billionaire investor and former Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban believes that <a href="https://x.com/search?q=%24BTC&amp;src=cashtag_click" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">$BTC</a> "has lost the plot" and has sold most of his holdings in the asset. The project's position: Bitcoin itself never lost its purpose, but certain individuals distorted its original ideals for personal gain.</p><p>That argument finds some support in the price data. <cite>Since the first signs of the US-Iran conflict emerged in late February, Bitcoin has risen more than 16% while gold has fallen over 15%.</cite> Cuban may be comparing the wrong time windows. <cite>Over the past 12 months, Bitcoin is down roughly 29% while gold is up more than 37%,</cite> but during the conflict itself, Bitcoin outperformed.</p><p><cite>Bitcoin still tends to trade more like a high-risk technology asset, rising and falling alongside broader investor appetite for risk.</cite> That behaviour does not fit the classic safe-haven mould. Cuban landed on the skeptical side of that debate, but the broader argument remains unsettled.
